POSITION DESCRIPTION

Coordinator - ELA/Math

Migrant Education Assistant Director

Join our team at ESD 105 Migrant Education Program (MEP) Title I, Part C as a dedicated
Coordinator. In this pivotal role, you will support local education agencies (LEAs) in
identifying needs, providing staff development, and enriching the educational experience
for migrant students (PreK-12). Your expertise will span English Language Arts and Math/
Science, driving advancements in instructional planning and assessment practices. Join us
in making a positive impact on the educational experience of our diverse student
population.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide technical assistance to school administrators and teachers in selecting,

designing, and developing appropriate methodologies to meet the needs of students
across all Migrant Education Programs.

 Embrace and implement strategies that promote equitable opportunities for children
and families vulnerable to cultural/linguistic barriers, celebrating and honoring heritage
and culture.

 Carry out the Washington State Migrant Education Service Delivery Plan, including the
OSPI-ESD 105 Scope of Work by assisting LEAs to:

  • Facilitate access to professional learning for Title III and TBIP programs,
addressing academic content language needs of migratory students through
state assessments (e.g., WIDA, Smarter Balanced).
  • Support district access to coordinated services for Multilingual Learners who are
also migratory students, ensuring language development services through the
State Transitional Bilingual Instructional Program, Title III, Dual Language and
other applicable resources.
  • Enhance instructional support in various school settings, fostering improved
comprehension and academic vocabulary development.
  • Coordinate planning and presentation of staff development addressing the needs
of migrant students in literacy, math, and science development (PreK-12) and
their families.
  • Design and implement transition plans for migrant students entering and leaving
LEAs due to migratory lifestyle.
  • Use student outcomes data for technical assistance, identifying the focus for LEA
services, including summer programming and student engagement/leadership
activities.
  • Promote and train on instructional practices that facilitate migrant student
academic achievement in Common Core State Standards for literacy, math, and
Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Integrate and coordinate services with other PreK-12 instructional and
assessment

activities, such as Teacher Principal Evaluation and Common Core State Standards.
Support alignment between grade levels, including PreK-3rd, by providing research-

based literacy, math, and science development strategies.
 Provide long-term professional development follow-up activities, including

coaching/mentoring and participation in peer learning groups.
 Represent ESD 105 and the Washington State Migrant Education Program at curriculum

and instruction meetings as assigned.
 Facilitate curriculum resource development among LEAs, ESD, and other agency staff.

Other Job Functions:

A. Perform other related duties as assigned.
B. Work evenings and weekends when needed to perform job duties.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in education.
2. Bilingual/bi-literate, Spanish/English.
3. Minimum of five years of successful experience teaching English Language Arts and/or

English as a Second Language at the elementary or secondary levels.
4. Successful experience working with English Language Arts, Math, and Science

curriculums and programs.
5. At least two years of experience in the planning and delivery of in-service training.
6. At least three years of demonstrated successful experience in delivering high-quality

professional development in PreK-12 language, literacy, math, and science
development, and evidence-based instructional practices.

7. Demonstrated success and comfort working with migrant parents and parents whose
first language is Spanish or other non-English languages.

8. Demonstrated application of values that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion within
past work experiences.

9. Demonstrated understanding of unique attributes of students and families that migrate
for work and financial stability, including how the migrant life impacts student learning.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and or Abilities
1. Excellent presentation skills.
2. High level of competency using technology in PreK-12 instructional settings, with adult

learners for professional learning and within a daily work environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to work well with people, including school staff and parents of

migrant children.
4. Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity in education.
5. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships.
6. High commitment to task accomplishment and flexibility in work hours.
7. Personal transportation and willingness to travel.
8. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
