CHAGRIN FALLS EXEMPTED VILLAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT
JOB DESCRIPTIONTitle:GIFTED INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST
Reports to: Superintendent
Job Objective: Directs gifted instruction and assessment
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Holds/maintains required Ohio Department of Education credentials. Ability to achieve program objectives through enhancements based on evaluated data and research-based best practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement clear pathways to successfully achieve program objectives.
  • Acts according to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of identification criteria, characteristics, and educational needs of gifted/talented students. Displays highly developed test interpretation skills. Experience as a gifted teacher is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.
  • Embraces high-performance standards (e.g., engagement, proficiency, resilience, etc.).
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment. Ability to influence the District’s cultural environment, evaluate instructional practices, use student assessment data to guide instruction, and implement continuous/measurable school improvements.
Preferred Attributes: Active listening, creative problem solving, and good time management skills.
Physical Demand Level1: Sedentary to light strength (occasionally lifting/carrying 11 lbs.). Duties require communicating verbally, far/near visual acuity, fine/gross manipulation, reaching at or below shoulder height, standing/walking, and using a traditional keyboard.

Essential Functions:
1. Provides leadership for the ongoing assessment of the gifted and talented program and the collaborative development of gifted program services (e.g., parent notification, participation criteria, curriculum development, instructional goals, etc.). Acts as a focused catalyst to help teachers utilize best practices in lesson design and classroom delivery.
  • Articulates a clear educational philosophy and sustainable program implementation strategy.
  • Fosters an ethos of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability at all system levels.
  • Maintains strong communication links between administrators, staff, students, friends, and the
community.
  • Monitors state standards/guidelines, gifted and talented priorities and research-based strategies.
  • Helps develop a unified curricular vision for the gifted and talented program. Helps staff understand
format, components, and instructional delivery methods/strategies.
  • Works with staff to develop high quality standards-based curriculum guides/courses of study for the
gifted and talented program.
  • Provides high quality professional development programs that increase staff competencies and
confidence. ·
  • Uses longitudinal analysis of test results to identify ongoing/emerging student needs.
  • Helps staff use timely tangible student data to make informed decisions that support continuous improvement and gauge progress toward achievement benchmarks.
  • Helps staff identify specific teaching techniques, and aligned resources best suited for each
student.
  • Identifies performance gaps/trends. Helps prioritize core performance objectives.
  • Maintains gifted and talented resource materials that support learning activities.
  • Assesses program performance and prepares progress update reports as required.
  • Prepares short/long-range program recommendations (e.g., deployment of program resources,
implementation time-frames, staffing, scheduling/time management strategies, training, etc.).
  • Qualifies students for program participation (e.g., achievement tests, grades, intelligence testing,
parent/student and teacher recommendations, etc.).
  • Prepares applicable Written Education Plans (WEP) and Written Acceleration Plans (WAP).
  • Advocates for students.
  • Collects, organizes, and monitors required federal/state documents.
  • Documents student progress and prepares recommendations that comply with state requirements.
  • Facilitates family engagement through programs and information about student learning.
  • Manages gifted and talented budget for the District.
