    Job Description:
    • Implement Board approved, aligned gifted services at the building level.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Valid Ohio teaching/education licensure with endorsement/credential as a Gifted Intervention Specialist;
    • Minimum 3 years teaching experience in an elementary classroom;
    • Understanding of the nature and needs of gifted learners, including characteristics and behaviors influenced by student culture and experience;
    • Demonstrated skill in using higher level questioning and teaching critical and creative thinking strategies;
    • Experience in delivering professional development, collaboration with, and coaching of colleagues;
    • Such alternatives to the above as deemed by the Gifted Coordinator.
    Essential Functions:
    • Abides by all performance responsibilities of a classroom teacher;
    • Participates in the assessment and identification students as requested;
    • Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs of the student as specified in the individual educational plan (IEP);
    • Consults with parents of students on a regular basis about the student's progress in the specific learning program;
    • Conducts an ongoing assessment of each student's academic skills, making adjustments in teaching strategies and curriculum as needed;
    • Serves as a resource person for faculty and administration as requested;
    • Maintains appropriate records and provides data for completion of annual reports;
    • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned;
    • Facilitates Board of Education approved gifted program within assigned school to align with district program and goals;
    • Works to plan, develop and execute gifted program with the team of elementary Gifted Intervention Specialists to ensure alignment of the program across the district with guidance from the district Gifted Coordinator;
    • Works with the team of middle school Gifted Intervention Specialists to ensure continuous growth and alignment of the district service with a smooth transition from elementary to middle school years;
    • Assists the Gifted Coordinator with the evaluation of the building gifted program and services according to its objectives, philosophy, and with input from all stakeholders;
    • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by district Gifted Coordinator, remaining flexible to program development and continuous improvement;
    • Facilitates testing during two referral windows per year;
    • Maintains building gifted data and records for access in student cumulative file;
    • Consults with building administration and personnel with the purposeful placement of gifted identified students into general education classrooms;
    • Assists the Gifted Coordinator with the communication to parents, staff and community about the building gifted program and service offerings;
    • Collaborates and consults with classroom teachers, intervention specialists, administrators, and volunteers to assist with differentiation of gifted students' instruction to help them make a year's worth of growth;
    • Consults with school personnel to develop differentiated curriculum and instruction and to address the intellectual and social-emotional needs of gifted students;
    • Facilitates and/or participates in conferences with teachers and parents regarding gifted served students;
    • Shares and communicates all building data and records with the Gifted Coordinator for EMIS reporting, Written Education Plans, Written Acceleration Plans, identification records, and any other gifted education need;
    • Attends building grade level meetings for service areas, building staff meetings, and district gifted team meetings as scheduled;
    • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of gifted education with attendance at state and local conferences and other forms of continuing professional development.
