Education Training Resources is Hiring an Outreach & Admissions Counselor (Oneonta) Near Oneonta, NY

Position Available: Outreach & Admissions Counselor 

We are seeking a full-time Admissions Counselor who is reliable, compassionate, has an honorable work ethic, and loves to work with youth! Join our Outreach and Admissions team as they provide an important role, by actively recruiting students into our vocational trade programs. This is an excellent position for an outgoing individual who loves traveling throughout New York State, meeting new people, and who can spread the word about the opportunities our program can provide for potential students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support enrollment by informing potential students about the programs and opportunities that we offer
  • Assist in actively recruiting new students into our programs through multiple outreach avenues
  • Execute the enrollment and admissions process into the Job Corps Program
  • Ensure that the OA contractual goal is met during the appraisal period 
  • Ensure individual OA ratings are at, or above 100% for the appraisal period 
  • Ensure that a corrective action plan is in place to meet any, and all measures that fall below 100%. 
  • Attend and actively participate in Outcome Measures System (OMS) meetings 
  • Ensure 100% overall according to the monthly OAOMS report card
  • Actively participate in committees and provide support to center functions and activities 
  • Ensure that the Area Marketing Plan for each county is developed and maintained on the AMP spreadsheet, and ensure that the One-Stop Centers have a plan for ensuring Job Corps presence and updated materials and that there is a plan for target recruitment (females, ELL, etc.). 
  • Work closely with the Business Community Liaison and the Work Based Learning Coordinator on outreach activities, and center functions such as the CID and CRC
  • Must access, verify, and document applicant eligibility, strictly, in compliance with the Companies Policy and Requirement Handbook (PRH) guidelines
  • Ensure the support of all on-center measures are met concerning the Outcome Measure System (OMS) 
  • Fully support the Center’s On-Board Strength (OBS) capacity and student employee retention
  • Adhere to the PRH requirements and maintain integrity in all work tasks to meet the Regional Office Center Assessment (ROCA), Corporate Office Center Assessment, (COCA), and Office of the Inspector General Standards (OIG) 
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the Student/Employee feels that they were provided with specific and accurate information regarding the Center, before arrival, and act as a Student/Employee mentor, ensuring that assigned Student/Employees are making progress and receive the necessary support to be successful in the program. 
  • Maintain the budget as described by the Administration/Finance Department.

Skills and Competencies: 

The Admissions Counselor must be able to work in a goal-oriented environment, meeting monthly student recruitment goals, and must possess the following:

  • Sound working knowledge of outreach techniques
  • Demonstrated skills in identifying and evaluating the emotional needs of young adults
  • Ability to quickly learn Job Corps methodologies 
  • Strong interpersonal 
  • Meticulous documentation and recording skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Ability to establish, and maintain effective working relationships with others, in a wide variety of circumstances related to student services. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical skills in interpreting data related to student programming
  • Computer literacy with an emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Educational Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, vocational training, and, or experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-to-year basis. Compensation is based on experience.
  • One or more years of experience in youth counseling is preferred.
  • Must possess a Valid, New York State Driver’s License, with an acceptable driving record.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment

  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects
