Assistant Attorney General - Education, Elections, Local Government and Judiciary
The mission of the Department of Law is to serve the citizens of the State of Georgia by providing legal representation of the highest quality to the agencies, officers and employees of state government and by honorably and vigorously carrying out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The Department of Law is organized into the Executive Office, five legal divisions, four specialty units and an operations division. The position filled through this announcement will serve in the Education, Elections, Government Services, and Judiciary section of our Government Services & Employment Division.

Job Summary
Attorneys in this section provide advice and representation to the University System of Georgia, the Technical College System of Georgia, the Department of Education, the Professional Standards Commission, the Secretary of State’s Election Division, the State Election Board, the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, the Public Defenders Council, the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission, the Office of Bar Admissions, and the State Charter Schools Commission. The section also houses the Attorney General’s Open Government Mediation program. Attorneys in the section also provide representation to the state’s judicial branch in non-monetary actions brought against appellate or superior court judges.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited law school and Member of the Georgia Bar
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who possess one or more items below:
·Experience in drafting and arguing dispositive motions in state and federal courts
·Experience in drafting appellate briefs
·Experience in federal civil rights litigation
·A working knowledge of federal election law
·Experience litigating in administrative hearings
Additional Information:
A criminal background check is completed on all candidates; employment is also contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of the background investigation. Candidates that are being strongly considered for the position will also be required to submit a Department of Law employment application & waiver, Georgia Department of Revenue Tax Clearance letter and copies of official college transcripts.
