Edna Martin Christian Center is Hiring a Jr. Youth Program Assistant Near Indianapolis, IN

Job Summary: ​*Junior youth program assistants promote the personal, educational and social development of young people ages 5-13 years.* The Youth Program Assistant position is under the supervision of the applicable Site Coordinator. It is a part-time, non-benefited position requiring 10-20 hours per week. The position includes management of classroom and social activities, executing lesson plans that are consistent with the educational needs of the students, tutoring or coordination with teachers, and other duties as assigned. Staff in this position are expected to facilitate programming in accordance with the goals and objectives established by EMCC’s director and Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement lesson plans and activities as directed and participate in planning as requested
  • Provide direct service to enrolled students by leading educational and recreational activities including tutoring, games, crafts, field trips, etc.
  • Administer daily snack/meal program
  • Ensure that classrooms, other school areas, and vehicles are safe, clean, and well-maintained
  • Act as bus/van monitor when necessary.
  • Work with participants to value EMCC and school-based resources
  • Work to publicize programming, activities and recruit prospective participants
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned

Complexity of Work:

  • Within the scope of the job, it requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, and adapt to change quickly.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Must be willing to obtain a professional Child and Youth Care Credential within one year of hire

Required Credential(s)

  • First Aid/CPR/Universal Precautions training as required by the State of Indiana
  • State- and Federally-approved background check, drug screening as required by the State of Indiana

Education:

  • In good standing at school. Letter of recommendation from School staff required.

Work Experience:

  • None required; at least one year of experience in childcare or school-age youth programming preferred

About Edna Martin Christian Center

The Edna Martin Christian Center was established as the East Side Christian Center in 1941. A community activist, Ms. Edna Martin, began working with children after school in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. In 1946 the Center became a home mission of the American Baptist Churches, USA. As a result of this affiliation, the services and programs of the center expanded to include social services to strengthen families in the neighborhood.
