Edmund Optics is Hiring a Machine Shop Supervisor Near Barrington, NJ

Overview

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for the performance of the Machine Shop. The Machine Shop Supervisor works closely with Production Control in managing the daily workload and oversees all aspects of production in the department. Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; organizing and monitoring work process. This individual needs to be well versed in reading blue prints, machining operations, GD&T, and gauging. In addition to Supervising the Machine shop Team they will be required to provide quotes, routing creation, manufacturing engineering support, and other supplementary/organizational task as required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervisory Functions:
    • Supervises work in area according to schedule and priorities set by Production control and Manager
    • Coordinates and tracks progress of training new hires as wells developing personal growth opportunities of the machine shop employees
  • Conducts personnel performance reviews and provide regular feedback to all production team members
  • Organizes and develops employee’s schedules
    • Aides and or determines workflow, capex procurement, supply chain, and other support mechanisms in the machine shop.
    • Monitors expenses and supplies
    • Accountable for 6S program in area
  • Accountable for preventative maintenance program
  • Communicates with engineering while new projects are in the design phase and identifies changes in part design that will improve manufacturability
  • Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances
  • Analyzes current processes to monitor quality and improve where possible
  • Monitors tooling costs and reports cost savings though process improvements
  • Creates specification sheets, blue prints, work instructions, and routings
  • Measures, examines, or tests completed units to check for defects and ensures conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers, optical comparator, CMM, and other complex measuring equipment
  • Aides in troubleshooting day to day machining and equipment issues
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Technical schooling is a plus
  • 10 or more years of manual and CNC machining; tool making experience is a plus
  • LEAN and Six Sigma knowledge/experience is a plus

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods; ability to travel; adequate manual dexterity to perform essential functions; ability to use some physical efforts in the handling of heavy materials and machinery; ability to lift ≥50 lbs.; ability to work in manufacturing environment.

Other Requirements:

  • US Citizenship or permanent residence required
