JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Special Services Center

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Special Education/Site Administrator

Job Goal:

Prepares students to respond appropriately to the education program. The P.T. works with team members in the school to enable the student to work toward his/her potential by improving, developing or restoring sensorimotor function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides direct or consult services for students with disabilities.
  1. Problem solves to meet gross motor needs of students with motor disabilities.
  1. Liaison with school personnel, family, physician and agencies through written and/or oral communication.
  1. Equipment ordering, adaptation, fabrication and repair.
  1. Attend and participate in IEPs, and eligibility team meetings, or any other type of meetings regarding the needs of students (staffings).
  1. Evaluation, assessment and screening of students.
  1. Develop a plan to promote individual student’s range of motion, restore function for gross motor or prevent the loss of mobility, as well as using assistive and supportive devices (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc).
  1. Establishes and maintains appropriate IEP goals/objectives for special ed records, progress reports and any written procedures for training (e.g., two person lift).
  1. Travel to meet job requirements.
  1. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Length of Contract: One hundred eighty two (182) contract days.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Coordinator of Special Education/Site Administrator in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.

None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Graduate from an approved school of Physical Therapy with a minimum of a Master’s Degree.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Licensed by the State of Oklahoma to practice Physical Therapy.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to use the mathematical skills required to fulfill job requirements. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

REASONABLE ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
