Edminster, Hinshaw, Russ & Associates, Inc. is Hiring a Land Development Engineer III Near Houston, TX

Job Summary:

The Engineer in training will work alongside a Project Manager, design communities and coordinate the development of construction drawings, specifications and construction contract documents for single-family residential development projects within and outside Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) that include paving, grading, drainage, water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, and other related items. Capable of managing design/plan production of a plan set from commencement through initial design and construction to agency acceptance, with the assistance of a PM or Asst. PM. The objective is to practice and develop time management skills while creating and following schedules, multi-tasking and coordinating. Work to accomplish all tasks in year three growth plan.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with engineering design functions under the direction of a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Provide support throughout the project and provide status updates throughout project life.
  • Serve on committees as needed.
  • Understands purpose and can implement objectives and timing of each QA/QC.
  • Can effectively communicate with survey and construction on items needed for plan production.
  • Understand and implement plan submittal and approval process for multiple agencies.
  • Lead development of in-house designs for projects.
  • Provide support throughout the project and provide status updates throughout project life.
  • Provide input into the development and documentation of specific company design standards for use by all professionals working on company design projects.
  • Create one-line designs and cost estimates with little or no assistance.
  • Completely understands the in-office construction phase of the project.
  • Assist in the management of a project from design through construction and project acceptance.
  • Completely understand platting rules and requirements.
  • Can put together a construction plan set from start to finish.
  • Create all project schedules for projects you are working on with assistance from PM or APM.
  • Assists in maintaining design and construction schedules and budgets.
  • Complete understanding of TCEQ rules.
  • Provides training to Engineer I-II and Interns.
  • Provide assistance in assignments for water, wastewater, paving and drainage and Roadway projects.
  • Team participation in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicates information, ideas, or instructions, both verbally and in writing; exhibits decisions that are based on safe practices and environmental awareness.
  • Contributes to the investigation and development of new concepts to solve unique challenges that come with each project.
  • Coordinates with permitting organizations such as the City, State and County officials to develop knowledge of the permitting process and the application of codes.
  • Interact and collaborate with other team members and clients to accomplish organizational goals; improve efficiency.
  • Preliminary design and research preliminary design; and may be required to perform detailed design.
  • Confidence in conducting internal team and project meetings.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Must be able to follow directives provided by the Project Manager, set priorities, assist in the preparation of project schedules and be willing to work on multiple projects in a team-based environment focused on the timely delivery of quality projects.
  • Requires strong communication with team members, clients and governmental agencies.
  • Advanced knowledge of design criteria.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.

Education, certification and experience:

  • BS in Civil Engineering.
  • 3 – 4 years or more of experience in Land Development.
  • E.I.T License required.
  • Must be PC literate, preferably having experience in AutoCAD.
  • Efficient in all Microsoft programs and software.

Physical Requirements:

  • This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate project plans both orally and in writing.
  • The employee is occasionally required to move about the office to operate office productivity machinery or maneuver through a construction site safely.
  • May require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Proper office attire to be presentable at client and out of office meetings.
