Job Summary:

The Engineer I or II typically demonstrates baseline working knowledge of routine work applications; follows standard principles and systems and uses appropriate terminology associated with a particular field of specialization; participates as a team member in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicates information, ideas, or instructions verbally and in writing; follows recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results; ensures safe practices and environmental awareness are exhibited in decisions; typically works under direct and frequent supervision while performing routine duties using established procedures with detailed instructions.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides entry level engineering work under close supervision of a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Applies prescribed methods to complete limited and specific portions of the broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in solving problems using hydrologic and hydraulic software modeling for evaluating drainage issues.
  • Communicates with supervisors so understanding of instructions are clear and concise.
  • Contribute data/findings for use in technical reports, designs, documents, or oral/written presentations.
  • Interact in a collaborative manner with other team members, staff, and clients to accomplish organizational goals and contribute to the success of projects; may provide ideas to improve efficiency at group level; network primarily with, but not limited to, own technical peer group.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, software and equipment.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Dependability — Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Attention to Detail — Job requires being careful and thorough about detail in completing work tasks.
  • Analytical Thinking — Job requires analyzing information and using logic and formulate alternative solutions to address work-related issues and problems
  • Technical writing and communication skills
  • Skills Desired: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Excel, Word

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require site visits, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as hard hats and safety vests, etc.

Education, certification and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in an Engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 0-3 years of civil engineering experience. 
  • Required Certifications, Registrations or Licensure:Engineer-In-Training preferred; Valid TX Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle may be required.

Physical Requirements:
