EdJobsNW is Hiring a Taholah- Mental Health Counselor (K-12) Near Tumwater, WA

Mental Health Counselors advocate for the mental health needs of all students by offering instruction that enhances awareness of mental health, appraisal and advisement addressing academic, career and social/emotional development; short-term counseling interventions and referrals to community resources for long-term support.

Responsibilities for Mental Health Counselor:

  • Provide individual and group guidance and counseling in social/personal, academic and career areas
  • Plan, coordinate and implement the building guidance program and work cooperatively with other staff to create a healthy learning environment
  • Work together with and consult with teachers and administrators concerning the educational development of students
  • Assist in communicating to parents the total school program
  • Consult with parents in the areas of educational and personal development of their children
  • Help implement referral procedures appropriate to situations
  • Help with the orientation of students involved in grade level movement, transfer, entry and withdrawal
  • Initiate and maintain adequate student and office records in meeting the responsibilities of the position
  • Crisis intervention
  • Short term counseling to students and their families
  • Assist with identification of students in need of specialized attention and services
  • Maximize the school's response to each student's individual needs
  • Develop interpersonal relations with the students, staff, community and businesses to establish a positive school climate
  • Confer with students on an individual and group basis regarding their educational and behavioral/social performance
  • Remain readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased academic achievement, personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
  • Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large
  • Identify students with academic problems and coordinate intervention strategies
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications for Mental Health Counselor:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate
  • Master’s Degree with ESA certification in counseling or social work with evidence of successful performance.
  • Ability to prevent/resolve conflict between students through individual and group process.
  • Ability to establish relationships with students, parents and community.
  • Criminal justice Fingerprint/Background Check thru ESD 113 (applicant is responsible for cost)
