PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The role of the Teen Parent Counselor/Social Worker is to identify and provide services defined in the TEA Student Accounting Handbook in Chapter 9 Pregnancy Related services (PRS) to the school age pregnant and/or parenting student.

QUALIFICATIONS:
TEA certification requirements for counselor and/or
LBSW (Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker) or LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker)
Ability to work with school-age pregnant and/or parenting students and their families.
Ability to work with community agencies, campus principals, teachers, and staff
Highly Qualified as per NCLB guidelines, if applicable to teaching assignment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Administration:
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required for the Pregnancy Related Services (PRS).
• Collect data and report program status to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and/or other appropriate agencies.
Program Management:
• Develop a plan for case management directly related to the needs of the school age pregnant and/or parenting student.
• Be a resource person for student self-responsibility as related to sexuality.
• Be a liaison between the school age pregnant and/or parenting student and community/government agencies.
• Collaborate with Special Education Department in delivering instruction to special education students who are pregnant and/or parenting.
Guidance:
• Provide self-responsibility individual, peer, and group counseling.
• Assist the high school Career and Technical counselor with student career awareness orientation and placement in Career and Technical programs.
• Develop an individual Education and Career Plan (IECP) for every student enrolled in the program.
• Assist in job placement of school age parenting student when needed.
Consultation:
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant persons to assure the academic success of school-age pregnant and/or parenting students.
• Work with school personnel and/or community/government agencies to secure resources for the school-age pregnant and/or parenting student.
• Use an effective referral process to help students and others to use special programs and services.

Assessment:
• Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately as they relate to the academic success of the school-age pregnant and/or parenting student.
Professional:
• Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
• Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
• Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
• Knowledgeable of current developments in specific field.
Other:
• Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise assigned Compensatory Education Home Instruction (CEHI) teachers.
• Supervise assigned clerical employee(s)
