About the Position:The primary goal of this position will be to functionally translate a physiological experiment’s analysis pipeline from MATLAB into Python code and produce output reports and visualizations that are as close as possible to those that are currently produced by the MATLAB code. As a secondary goal, further refinements and “wish-list” items may be added to the analytical pipeline as requested by the bench scientists.

This is a full time, 40 hours/week summer position located onsite in Boulder, Colorado. No remote work.

Essential Job Duties and Functions:
- Work with scientists in the lab to gain an understanding of what exactly is being measured and why it is important.
- Translate MATLAB code into Python. Does not need to be a direct translation, but a functional translation with a focus towards object-oriented programming, modular design, and maintainability.
- Ensure that input files are handled exactly as they are currently, and output formats and graphs are produced as they are currently.
- Iteratively work with scientists to work through any points of optimization, improvement, and debugging that needs to be done.
- Comment the code extensively to allow for maintenance and updating after the project's completion.
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies; safe work practices; and company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Minimum of 2 years of college education in a biological track (biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience with object-oriented programming languages, ideally Python, is required. Preference will be given to applicants with experience with data analytic tools, such as pandas and numpy, as well as experience with data visualization tools such as matplotlib or seaborn.
- Wet-lab experience is preferred, as this position will require learning and understanding the benchtop experiments that are being performed.
- Independent problem solving skills and the ability to independently search existing resources for potential solutions to programming problems.
- Ability to work within a group of diverse interests and to think creatively about solutions a wide range of potential requests.
