Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Waste Characterization Training Specialist opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site.

Waste Characterization Training Specialist

The purpose of this task is to provide Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS)

with the knowledge, background, and experience to present requested Waste

Characterization Courses at the Savannah River Site.

The SRNS Training group supports the Radioactive Waste Characterization Course (ZGBITM02) that teaches appropriate personnel various characterization methodologies for radioactive waste.” Additional support shall be needed for Hazardous Waste & PCB Waste Characterization (ZGBITM01) which has the same target audience as the ZGBITM01 but is specific to RCRA and PCB waste characterization, waste sampling, Lab Packs and signing waste characterization documents destined for Treatment, Storage or Disposal facility (TSD).

Seeking a trainer that understands the flow down requirements within SRS 1S Chapter 3, Waste Characterization Program to train waste generating officials how to characterize radioactive, hazardous, and PCB waste per the procedure.

• The Radioactive Waste Characterization Course (ZGBITM02) course teaches appropriate personnel various characterization methodologies for radioactive waste. This course will last four days with the exam being administered on the fourth day.
• The Hazardous Waste & PCB Waste Characterization course (ZGBITM01) teaches appropriate personnel various characterization methodologies for hazardous and/or PCB waste. This course will last three days with the exam being administered on the third day.
• These Instructor led training courses includes:
  • Reviewing unit conversions
  • Basic radiological terms and characteristics
  • Definitions, critical to the understanding of the material
  • Teaching required calculations utilized by the various characterization methodologies (e.g., radioactive decay equation, smear-to curie equations, determine fissile gram equivalence)

• Provide support for subject matter assessments including assessment performance and effectiveness reviews.
• Provide support for course material revision/generation.
• Anticipate each course will be taught two to three times per year.

Course material will include:

• Enabling Objectives
• Student Study Guide
• PowerPoint Slide Presentation
• Practical Exercises
• An Exam

Performance of work shall be in accordance with the DOE Orders and Standards:

Personnel performing this task shall have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience with all aspects of Training for high hazard and complex facilities to DOE O 426.2 requirements and minimum of ten (10) years of experience with establishing, implementing and the performance of oversight of, training requirements, including three (3) years of such experience at a DOE Facility.

Function includes:

• Experience with SRNS 1S Chapter 3 and Chapter 6 (preferred)
• Identify weaknesses of a lack of integration or difficulties in support organizations assisting operations.
• Integrate with the support organization and operations to ensure a quality product is developed and delivered to Operations in order for Operations to execute the mission scope.
• Team size will be dependent upon the size of the project, facility(s) or organization being supported
• Work closely with the Safety Basis Group to assist in developing requirements that are more in line with operations and ensure Technical Specification Requirements (TSRs) are adequately implemented.
• Work with Training to ensure adequate qualification of operations personnel and ensure continuing training is effective and develop training staff and operations supervision with advanced continuous training.
• Work with procedures to ensure appropriate quality of procedures, appropriate implementation of design basis and key requirements and ensure procedures are workable and followed in the field.
• Provide oversight of field activities identifying deficiencies and leading the methods to correct those deficiencies.
• Prepare and participate in readiness reviews.
• Provide disciplined operations principles to support and project activities.
