EdForce is Hiring a Special Education Teaching Assistant (0760-5) Near Boston, MA

University Instructors, LLC is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to lead, change, and inspire students in Boston. We are looking for individuals who are ready to assist teachers in creating an innovative and high-quality education environment where quality and continuity are key factors in meeting the needs of students.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support students who have individualized education plan (IEPs)
  • Assist students with hygiene, medical and personal needs. This may include lifting, toileting, washing, and feeding with G-tubes.
  • Assist with management of high-risk students whose behaviors directly impact their access to education.
  • Assist with preparation for and implementation of behavior management techniques, education, and vocation placement programs.
  • Support special education teachers in maintaining students records such as month end reports, schedules, attendance records, credits earned, and progress toward meeting classes and credits required for graduation.
  • Support direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings as guided by teachers.
  • Provide assistance with classroom activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials.
  • Assist in classroom set up and clean up.
  • Supervise students on field trip activities.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by Headmaster/Principal.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Forty-eight (48) Semester Credit Hours of College Coursework, or seventy-two (72) Quarter Credit Hours of College Coursework, or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment (A passing score of 464 is required for MA) (http://www.ets.org/parapro/) or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants (http://www.act.org/workkeys/profcert/index.html) (A passing score of 3 or higher on each of the core assessments).
  • Minimum of two years experience working with young children.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Certification as a teacher or license as a social worker.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of the following languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

The start and end times of schools where you may work vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some schools have a longer school day.

Pay: From $23.55 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
