EDF Renewables North America is Hiring a Senior Manager, Project Engineering Management [Hybrid] Near San Diego, CA

Scope of Position

EDF Renewables North America is a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with over 35 years of experience. We deliver grid-scale power: wind (onshore and offshore), solar photovoltaic, and storage projects; distribution-scale power: solar and storage; asset optimization: technical, operational, and commercial expertise to maximize the performance of generating projects, and onsite solutions, through the Company’s PowerFlex affiliate, offering a full suite of onsite energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers: solar, storage, EV charging, energy management systems, and microgrids. 

 

The Senior Manager leads and mentors the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) group. Utilizes expertise in project engineering to set the group’s strategic direction and execute project strategy and design. Additionally, performs PEM tasks on assigned projects and additional engineering assignments. Liaise regularly with other interdepartmental leads and report key findings to senior management.

Responsibilities

Team Management, Goal Setting, and Reporting

  • Manage team efforts and prioritize based on impact and value to the business.
  • Mentor other PEM’s.
  • Set achievable milestone timelines for the team to ensure progress on project execution and key/long lead time items. Collaborate with regional leads.
  • Lead key project decisions and report conclusions to key stakeholders and management. Drive corresponding follow up actions within the organization.
  • Disseminate critical project information over the entire group.
  • Define the team’s strategy and direction by assessing company needs and through collaboration with team members, interdepartmental leads and stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of individuals, and the PEM group, toward increasing their impact on EDFR projects including holistic engineering and broadening expertise.

Project Engineering Management

  • Responsible for leading and coordinating engineering for development projects, including but not limited to.
  • Engineering studies (e.g. Geotech, Hydro, Lidar, Power Flow, Interconnection etc.)
  • Preliminary engineering design, including Collector, Substation and Transmission Line design
  • Value engineering
  • Coordination with other teams on energy assessment changes, major equipment changes, coordination with Utility, ISO, and off-taker on engineering deliverables, etc.
  • Maintaining the PEM tracker accurately and up to date, including communication with key stakeholders.
  • Manage the engineering design process and design reviews.
  • 10% through As-Built electrical-civil BOP and electrical-physical HV designs
  • Works closely with and drives engineering for project management, preconstruction and construction teams. Assists with budgets and schedules. Summarize risk analysis and present findings.
  • Participates in Project review led by the Phase Leader
  • Responsible for project engineering handover.
  • Manage the project lessons learned process. Incorporate into future projects.

Other Engineering Tasks

  • Engineering process and procedure development
  • Selected LCOE initiatives
  • Productivity initiatives
  • Various transversal tasks

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical engineering. Masters degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience of 8 years on renewable energy projects is required. 3 years of experience should be in photovoltaics and/or energy storage.
  • Experience managing technical teams and/or engineers.
  • Experienced with various Microsoft software programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, Visio, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experienced in engineering software including CYME, ETAP, Flow-2D and AutoCAD.
  • Requires diversified knowledge of relevant codes, standards and engineering principles and practices required to produce safe, efficient, reliable, easy to operate and maintain, and cost-effective designs.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • Highly motivated, creative, self-starter, and good team player.
  • Possess the desire and capability to constantly learn and digest advanced concepts in engineering, programming, and mathematics.
  • Able to work well with cross functional teams.
  • Strong desire for problem solving and deriving engineering solutions independently.
  • Be comfortable and successful in a fast pace, high energy environment.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle and lead multiple concurrent projects, track progress, and provide updates as necessary.
  • Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Able to successfully work with contractors, vendors, and consultants.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 50lbs.

Working Conditions:

Approximately 80% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Approximately 20% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

This role’s annual base salary range is between $126,600 and $211,000.
