Job Summary

The Transportation Driver transports residents in one of our vehicles to and from doctor appointments, grocery stores, restaurants, concerts, and other outings in accordance with all laws, regulations, and company standards.

Essential Functions

  • Transports residents safely and timely to personal appointments (i.e., medical visits, banking, shopping).
  • Assists residents with boarding and de-boarding vehicles-especially those with special needs.
  • Demonstrates safe driving techniques to protect our residents.
  • Tracks mileage in vehicle log.
  • Maintains vehicle maintenance log and maintains receipts for vehicle expenses.
  • Responds proactively to prevent resident injuries during transporting.
  • Completes routine maintenance for safe operation of vehicle (i.e., fluid levels, oil changes, checking tires).
  • Reports any non-routine maintenance needs to the Executive Director for prior approval.
  • Keeps vehicles’ interior and exterior clean and safe to reflect well on community’s reputation.
  • Represents the community well during outings.
  • Complies with all Department of Transportation standards as required for drivers of vehicles over 10,001 lbs.
  • Performs all other job duties as assigned.
  • Must transport residents safely and timely for activities and appointments.
  • Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgement.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk and move intermittently during working hours.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist, lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder, lift and carry 40 lbs. and push/pull 40 lbs. Delivers transportation services in a pleasant manner for the residents’ enjoyment

  • Works efficiently and effectively with little to no supervision.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills.
  • Must be punctual for scheduled shifts as well as arrival and pick-up at resident appointments.
  • Must be patient and courteous.
  • Must work well in stressful situations.
  • Must be geographically knowledgeable of area surrounding community.
  • Must keep in contact with community and be available for calls when transporting residents.
  • Must always be in proper attire and well-groomed.
  • Must be able to receive and resolve complaints graciously.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Chauffeur’s license required.
  • Prefer prior experience as commercial driver- preferably with seniors.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must have knowledge of First Aid, CPR and Universal infection control.
