Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk Inc is Hiring an Employment specialist Near Patchogue, NY

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

SPANISH SPEAKING PREFERRED

To assist Consumers in the efforts to secure employment as a means of

self-sustaining in maintaining permanent housing; assisting consumers with resume-building

and interview skills training, linking consumers to potential employers, and preparing the client

for employment .

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Conduct initial assessments of consumers as assigned, determine job readiness, identify skills and barriers to employment, provide one-on-one career counseling, compile employment development plans and resumes, make referrals to employers and training programs, and follow up on job placements.
  • Complete and submit intake, assessment, enrollment reports, progress notes, employment development plans, job placement, and other reports as required.
  • Actively and continuously work to develop professional relationships, training opportunities, and job leads with employers for existing and potential consumers.
  • Participate in outside marketing efforts to promote. Analyze the client's experience, previous employment, and education and advise on the appropriate employment plan
  • Create or edit Resumes, must have expert formatting, editing, and proof-reading skills
  • Coach clients on the hiring and interview process. Conduct mock interviews, coaching the clients to successful employment
  • Assist clients in setting up email accounts, conducting internet job searches, and online application processes

and hiring Consumers by area employers, including group presentations, job fairs, and recruitment events.

Assume other essential duties assigned by the HUD Rapids Rehousing Program Manager to complete tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Must have experience and well well-versed in employment procedures, Hiring Processes, unemployment, and EEO guidelines
  • Must (be / have) ability or familiarity working with at-risk population
  • Ability to place in appropriate work settings to ensure longevity of employment in the least restrictive environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of community programs and services
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Team Player with good listening skills
  • A car for visits to Consumers in their own homes or at other locations
  • Analyze the consumer's experience, previous employment, and education and advise on an appropriate employment plan

  • REQUIRED : Valid New York State Driver's License and own insured Vehicle with 100 / 300 Bodily Injury Liability.
  • REQUIRED : PPD WITH PROOF

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

2 years experience working with Homeless at-risk population a plus and must know clinical issues, skill in community resource development.

Two years of Human resource background is a Plus. Department of Labor Knowledge a Plus.
