Driver Education Instructor with American Sign Language

(Full-Time/Flexible Hours Monday – Friday/Possible evenings)

$50.00- $55.00 Per Hour/Based on experience

** This position requires local travel to various locations in New Jersey

Travel will be up to 60% with mileage or a company car **

The Driver Education Instructor will implement and coordinate the driver’s education program to support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing throughout New Jersey.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Travels throughout the State.
Communicates effectively using American Sign Language
Facilitates regular training sessions in a class setting and one-to-one.
Provide support services remotely when needed.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implements and coordinates a driver’s education program to support Deaf and HOH individuals in studying for the written driver’s test.
Provide support to enroll in the driver’s test held regionally across the state.
Coordinates interpreting services and acts as an advocate in the local DMV offices.
Effectively manages a caseload of clients.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in teaching or Deaf education preferred or other relevant education/experience.
Must be able to effectively communicate fluently in ASL.
Strong communication skills with Deaf individuals with limited ASL experience.
Must be comfortable working in a class setting or one on one.
Possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Outstanding organizational skills to be able to manage a caseload of clients efficiently.
Requires someone who can work independently with minimal supervision.
