Job Summary:
The office of Enrollment Services at Eastern Washington University invites applications for an EWU Dual Enrollment (DE) Specialist to support EWU's Dual Enrollment programs of College in the High School (CIHS) and Running Start (RS) programs. EWU Dual Enrollment (DE) Specialists support and encourage all dual enrollment students, with an emphasis on traditionally underrepresented students, in successfully enrolling and completing EWU dual enrollment classes, identifying short- and long-term academic goals, and assisting with the transition to postsecondary schools.
A successful candidate for Dual Enrollment Support Specialist should be self-motivated and comfortable presenting information to a wide variety of audiences within Lincoln and Adams Counties. This position requires problem solving skills, interpersonal relationship building, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to work independently and collaboratively.
The Dual Enrollment Support Specialist reports to the Assistant Director EWU in the High School, and will provide community-based outreach and referral services, career and academic advising, and other transitional student support services to high school students in EWU's DE programs. This position will also be the EWU liaison assigned to high schools participating in EWU CIHS and to students participating in the EWU RS program. The EWU DE Specialists will collaborate with the local high schools and EWU Admissions in representing EWU DE programs in the high schools, at informational sessions and recruitment events. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Two (2) years of experience working with groups or individuals on setting and completing goals, encouraging persistence and personal resilience, and locating support resources.
  • Professional experience with programs that provide services to underrepresented, low-income, or first-generation populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a positive collaborative manner to build partnerships with community resources, high schools, and families in support of students success.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, or diversity.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid drivers license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spanish/English Proficiency.
  • Masters Degree in education, social work or a related field.
  • K-12 experience or student support service programs experience.

  • Maintain a caseload of EWU CIHS and EWU Running Start students.
  • Provide proactive, culturally sensitive individual and group advising to current and prospective EWU CIHS students, and EWU Running Start students at assigned high schools.
  • Visit assigned high schools weekly or as permitted by high schools, holding regular office hours in each assigned community so that students, families, and counselors can readily access in-person information and support.
  • Assist students with developing their electronic academic plans, consistent with their life, career, and educational goals, while ensuring steady progress towards high school graduation.
  • Teach students to use EWUs technology resources for application, registration, requesting transcripts, paying bills, and other academic and student services.
  • Work with CIHS instructors to identify students in need of intervention, determine student needs, identify types of resources needed, and refer students to appropriate services at the high schools, in the community or at EWU.
  • Communicate with students regarding any referral, alert, or progress report, making sure the students have received appropriate support.
  • Provide students with needed support in transitioning from high school to a full-time college student in pursuit of a bachelors degree.
  • Follow unit policies, federal and state regulations, and best practices when supporting parents, families, and school stakeholders whose students are interested in or enrolled at EWU.

  • Organize and host community-based, student- and family-centered events in collaboration with the assigned high school, EWU Admissions, and the Center for Academic Advising & Retention to provide instruction on EWU admissions and academic policies and procedures, educational planning tools, career decisions, financial aid and fiscal literacy for college, time management, study skills, and decision-making skills for college.
  • Actively and continually create and maintain networks of support services in the high schools, the communities, and throughout EWU to provide holistic support services for students in EWU CHS and EWU Running Start.
  • Host program orientations for CHS high school participants and families.
  • Follow guidelines and plans to collaborate on the creation and sharing of information materials (print, social media, other media outlets) in English and Spanish and proactively communicate with students, families, high schools and other stakeholders.
  • Schedule visits and travel to assigned schools.
  • Will work some evenings and some weekends.

  • Participate in student transition, advising, persistence, and retention assessment efforts for assigned populations.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data for student populations as requested.
  • Review published research to maintain updated knowledge of programs, information, procedures, technologies, and best practices in advising and student retention of dual enrollment student populations.
  • Assist with day-to-day office duties such as CHS application, registration, and billing processes.
  • Assist the Dual Enrollment leadership in developing and implementing procedures and programs as requested, especially as regards accreditation requirements.
  • Assist in updating various office materials and presentations.
  • Attend staff and other informational meetings as requested.
  • Identify policies and procedures that adversely affect students, and propose solutions that support student success.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Ability to be flexible regarding travel and working occasional non-traditional hours, including weekends, when necessary including travel within territory.
  • Position requires use of a personal vehicle when performing job duties; proof of insurance and a valid drivers license are required for this position; mileage for use of personal vehicle for completion of job duties will be reimbursed at the approved state rates.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
This position is covered by the Public School Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $43,988 (minimum) up to $52,788. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
