Job Summary
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Pence Union Building (PUB)
Under guidance of the Director of Student Engagement and the Pence Union Building (SEP), the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and the Pence Union Building (PUB) is responsible for creating a vibrant and engaging campus experience by coordinating a variety of events on the EWU Cheney campus and in the PUB in particular. The Assistant Director supervises and leads the Student Affairs Student Engagement team: Eagle Entertainment and the PUB Welcome Desk staff. The Assistant Director plays a crucial role in designing and facilitating a comprehensive and professional programming calendar, including signature events such as the annual Drag Show, Spring Concert Series, and Eagle Family Homecoming events, with a specific emphasis on events that bring the student community together.
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and the PUB is a full-time, twelve-month position and reports to the Director of SEP. The position requires considerable evening and weekend commitments.

Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Education, or related field.
  • Experience working with event management, fast paced front desk operations, and contracts.
  • Risk management experience and program development.
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment to deliver effective programs and interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide great customer service in collaboration with other offices.
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education or related field.
  • Involvement and/or leadership experience with a campus programming board or other student organization.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional staff experience in a higher education field.
  • Experience working with college student development, student unions, and/or leadership programs.
  • Experience developing and administering budgets.
  • Supervisory experience of student staff and volunteers.
  • Assessment and development of learning outcomes.
  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • Hire, select, and train student staff.
  • Lead and supervise a team of up to 5 students in Eagle Entertainment who develop large scale professional programming on the Cheney campus.
  • Lead and supervise a team of up to 7 students to work at the PUB Welcome Desk and provide excellent customer service and enforce PUB policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as liaison for the PUB Operations; responsible for building a positive relationship with custodial, facilities, and tenants of the PUB.
  • Responsibility for approval of campus postings and use of AppSpace for digital campus postings.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus partners such as Event Planning, Trucking Services, and Contracts and Procurement.
