Purpose-built for competitive aquatics, the Aquaplex was designed to host Mid-Atlantic and national competitive swimming and diving events, artistic swimming, water polo, and more. Spectator seating for 1,500 overlook the eight-lane, 50-meter pool with two moveable bulkheads. Seating for 760 athletes occupies the wide, spacious pool decks for the smoothest of swim and dive event execution. Swimmer warm-up and warm-down is a breeze in the eight-lane, 25-yard programming pool, and nearby multi-purpose rooms provide space for event staging and hospitable functionality. A culinary center with two purchase points ensures spectators never miss an exciting moment.

The Hampton Aquaplex is accepting applications for Facilities Manager. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the company buildings, grounds, equipment, and related facility operations. This vital position is responsible for overall appearance, safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the Aquaplex, which includes maintenance, custodial support, and regulatory compliance. The Facilities Manager negotiates contracts with service providers, inspectors or other related regulatory agencies, and conducts internal inspections, maintenance, and upkeep to ensure the facility is in compliance with safety regulations .

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to the General Manager. Work is performed under general guidance and direction according to City and Department policies and procedures, as well as state and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines. Provides direct supervision to staff involved in maintenance, custodial, and operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities Manager performs and oversees maintenance, safety and operational tasks that promote a clean and safe working environment for employees, guests, and members. These include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Utilize knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment to direct and manage cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance of the facility.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop and implement appropriate and effective systems related to these areas.
  • Maintain knowledge of building internals (i.e., sprinkler systems, HVAC systems, alarm systems, fire systems, lighting, temperature controls, utilities, etc.).
  • Facilitate inspections in compliance with local, state, and federal code and/or standards.
  • Enforce safety regulations and maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Hire and maintain staff appropriate for the scope of the operations.
  • Supervise and manage the facilities staff, including employee hiring, training, and scheduling.
  • Supervise contractors as needed.
  • Under the direction of the General Manager, perform and report timely staff performance reviews and evaluation. Perform appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Maximize staff efficiency by analyzing and resolving issues, suggesting improvements, and motivating employees
  • Maintain adequate inventory and supplies throughout the facility, and determine appropriate resources needed for programs, activities, and events.
  • In collaboration with the General Manager, develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for the facility.
  • Perform daily basic maintenance and maintain service logs for both internal and contracted vendor services.
  • Serve as foreman for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Prioritize and complete repairs; immediately respond to emergency repair needs.
  • Regularly review and complete a comprehensive repair log as required.
  • Set overall goals and objectives to support the Aquatic Center operations, and allocate necessary resources to provide facilities maintenance support.
  • Ensure facility and equipment are ready for regular business and special events are adequately equipped.
  • Coordinate with other managers and staff to plan cleaning and maintenance schedules around daily Aquaplex activities, such as meets, practices, camps, and special events.
  • Manage the department budget by reconciling supply invoices and monitoring/controlling utilities, facility expenses, and facility/housekeeping wages.
  • Participate in weekly Managers meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adherence to ESM/Aquaplex policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Serve as an Essential Personnel Employee, providing services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of Aquaplex employees, members, and guests during weather-related events or other emergencies to ensure continuity of key operations and to protect the facility.

ADDITIONAL WORK ANTICIPATED:

  • Act as resource to management and employees regarding Aquaplex facility and offerings. Remain knowledgeable of current and/or new developments in the field through professional memberships, conference or workshop attendance, and networking with other professionals.
  • May serve as a technical resource for capital improvements and remodels of facility.
  • May perform physical activities in programs and events, including moving, lifting, pushing, and carrying equipment or supplies.
  • Performs other related work of a similar nature or level.
  • Must be able to work irregular shifts to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the General Manager.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing facility physical plants
  • Tradesman experience (i.e., plumbing, electric, HVAC, etc.)
  • Experience in pool maintenance
  • Pool Operator's license preferred

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Google Suite. Upon hire and training, the individual must be able to use other property-specific software and hardware.

Work is performed year-round at the Hampton Aquaplex. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
