POSITION SUMMARY
Operates a variety of equipment (excluding cranes) used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of marine vessels and shipyard maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
· Operates trucks and construction equipment, such as backhoe, man-lift, road grader, front-end loader, etc.
· Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
· Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
· Perform routine inspection on assigned equipment and notify management of required maintenance and/or repair.
· Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
· Work with hand signals from Universal Standard Signal Chart.
· Work with minimal supervision.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/ Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of experience in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires knowledge of ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to read and understand load charts. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.
