SALARY INFORMATION:

Valve Technician II is the experienced/journey level class in the series, fully competent to independently perform duties.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Valve Technician I: This is the entry-level class in the Valve Technician series. Initially under immediate supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine duties used in the repair and maintenance of valves used in potable and reclaimed water systems. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Valve Technician II level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Valve Technician II: This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Valve Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Valve Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgement and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction and assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit,
The ideal candidate, Valve Technician I, possesses six (6) months of maintenance and repair experience in a utility or public works maintenance or construction program; or Valve Technician II possesses two (2) years of maintenance and repair experience in a utility or public works maintenance and construction program, or one (1) year of experience as a Valve Technician I with the District.
This recruitment is to fill two (2) positions in the Water Operations Department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision (Valve Technician I) or general supervision (Valve Technician II) from the Water Operations Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
PLEASE NOTE: In-person, pre-employment testing is part of the selection process for this position.
