College and Area Information:
Eastern Arizona College’s District Offices are located in Thatcher, Arizona, a beautiful rural area with easy access to arid
as well as mountainous recreation. The College is located approximately 125 miles northeast of Tucson and 165 miles
southeast of Phoenix. EAC is a comprehensive community college offering five associate degrees across nearly 50
programs of study. Eastern Arizona College is the oldest member of the Arizona Community College system and is fully
accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
Position Summary and Organizational Relationship:
The Diesel Technology Instructor works in the ITE department and reports to the Dean of Business, Computers & ITE.
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be
considered.

  • Minimum five years recent occupational experience in diesel mechanics or an appropriate related field.
  • Ability to teach Diesel Technology courses in intensive occupational certification program.
  • Ability to relate well to students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to utilize computer programs as tools for communication, record keeping, supplemental instruction, and
instructional preparation.
  • Must be willing and able to work a non-traditional schedule at various locations in the College’s service area that
may include day, afternoon, and/or evening classes.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with college personnel and students.
  • Ability to foster and maintain safe practices while adapting to emerging working conditions.
  • Ability to work closely with department colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years recent occupational experience in diesel mechanics or an appropriate related field.
  • Appropriate industrial certification(s).
  • Experience in the mining industry.
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Adhere to a work schedule determined by college contract.
  • Teach to proficiencies in the diesel technology industry and provide flexible learning opportunities in support of
the program focusing on Diesel systems and maintenance.
  • Teach a variety of community college occupational diesel technology courses.
  • Maintain true and accurate records reflecting student progress and achievement for all courses taught.
  • Update course outlines, pre- and post-test and curriculum as needed.
  • Teach a minimum of 30 adjusted load hours per year.
  • Teach on campus late afternoon, evening, and summer courses as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Typical duties may include advising students, serving on advisory and other
assigned committees, collaborating with other faculty, and serving as a member of the division.
  • Be available for consultation with colleagues, stakeholders, and students, attend mandatory meetings, and

complete training and other assignments as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • Proficiency in diesel engine systems, including fuel systems, electrical systems, emissions control systems, and
diagnostic procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to students with varying levels of
experience.
  • Ability to establish rapport and cultivate a positive learning atmosphere conducive to student engagement and
success.
  • Understanding of diesel engine maintenance practices, repair techniques, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging lesson plans, hands-on demonstrations, and practical exercises in diesel
technology.
  • Capability to stay updated on changes in diesel technology curriculum requirements and educational best
practices.
  • Awareness of industry trends, technological advancements, and emerging practices in diesel technology.

are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May need to lift heavy components or equipment during demonstrations or lab sessions. Endurance is also
important for standing, bending, and moving around the workshop for extended periods.
  • The ability to move freely within the workshop space is necessary for overseeing student activities, providing
assistance, and ensuring safety compliance.

Working Environment:
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Combination of classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, and practical training in workshop or laboratory
settings.
  • Exposed to moderate noise levels.

Compensation and Position Availability:
The initial position compensation range is $51,807-$74,010 (exempt) per current salary schedule plus a cash flex benefit.
The position also includes excellent employee benefits. The anticipated position start date is August 12, 2024.
