Student Services Aide (SSA)

Seasonal Position / July 1st through August 23rd

Monday- Friday 8:30am-3:30pm

Easterseals is currently seeking Student Service Aide’s (SSA) to join our team at the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) in Canton, MA. The SSA will provide direct support and personal care assistance for students during recreational activities. 

Essential Functions:

• Assists students requiring support in addressing personal care needs as needed and/or assigned (e.g. peri-care, diapering, changing clothing, feeding, etc.) for the purpose of allowing students to understand cultural issues and life skills needed to successfully integrate into the camp environment
• Assists in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of teachers, recreation leaders, and other professionals 
• Assists students to access their electronic communicators, switches, pointers, feeders, etc. and ensures the equipment is hooked up and functioning properly
• Assist in the monitoring of students during assigned periods within a variety of environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, area parking lots, special events, etc.) 
• Support student to enable them to fully participate in scheduled activities (including but not limited to entering the pool and participating in barn/animal activities with the student)
• Assists students in and out of wheelchairs; transporting students in their wheelchairs in and around PRHC campus grounds

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Experience providing personal care to youth and/or adults with physical disabilities
• Knowledge of the special needs of students who have behavioral, learning, or physical disabilities
• Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations

Preferred Experience: 

• 1-3 years’ experience as a PCA or school aide
• Experience as a classroom aide
