Job Title: AIG Teacher

Core Accountabilities: The AIG teacher performs various tasks to provide appropriate direct services for Academically and Intellectually Gifted students at East Wake Academy. This position includes record-keeping assistance related to the district’s plan for these students. The AIG Teacher is also responsible for direct services to these students and collaborating with school staff members to foster the potential of other high-performing students. Work requires the use of technology along with the most current teaching practices.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and indirect instructional services to AIG students who demonstrate a need for differentiation in core subjects
• Plan a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
• Organize enrichment experiences to develop potential within students and enhance the learning experience
• Model differentiation strategies
• Work closely with teachers and other staff members to integrate AIG services in regular educational settings
• Coordinate, administer, and interpret appropriate testing for identification of AIG students
• Facilitate staff development to ensure school staff is aware of best practices for AIG students
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by AIG plan
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students 
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment materials, and facilities
• Follow and implement all East Wake Academy’s policies and procedures
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
• Communicate expectations clearly
• Evaluate students’ academic and social growth
• Co-teach with other staff members 
• Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• Extensive knowledge of Common Core and Essential Standards, effective intervention strategies, and best practices

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid Teaching License and AIG certification
