SUMMARY OF JOB:

The Operating Room Technician, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, participates as a member of the OR team in planning, preparing, and implementing an aseptic and safe environment for patients and other health team members. To assure quality care for the patient in the Operating Room as a Surgical Technician. To assist the Surgeon with instrumentation and anticipate his/her needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an ORT training program or on the job training with a minimum of 2 years experience
• Experience in scrubbing at least minor procedures in the specialty surgical areas
• Surg Tech Certification is a plus
• BLS is required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Checks room for cleanliness, availability of supplies and equipment at the beginning of the day.
• Collaborates with circulating nurse in room preparation, selecting supplies, and equipment is organized fashion.
• Open sterile packs and supplies, using surgeon's preference card for specific requests. Use supplies conservatively and efficiently.
• Assists surgeon with fluoroscope during cases.
• Sets up back table and mayo using surgeon's preference card as a reference for instruments, medications, etc.
• Maintains proper sterile technique when gowning and gloving the Surgeon.
• Assists with draping of patient and confirms the operative area.
• Prepares soiled instruments for cleaning. Decontaminates and reprocesses in steam autoclave.
• Assists in transfer and positioning of patients.
• Collaborates with circulating nurse in room preparation, selecting supplies, and equipment is organized fashion.

Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
