The BHUCS Staff Nurse assumes a leadership role in the BHUCS. This includes triaging patients to the appropriate level in a timely fashion, providing primary nursing care to patients of all ages, directing the general patient flow through the BHUCS, and taking appropriate steps in following up lab and x-ray results. The nurse is responsible for timely and accurate documentation of his/her nursing care in accordance with policy and procedures.
The nurse is also responsible for collaboration with other members of the BHUCS in a multi-disciplinary team, and also with members of the SEF, the other clinical departments at EBNHC and affiliated sites, and NSMH.
One BHUCS RN per work shift will be designated the “charge nurse”; the charge nurse manage all communication around receiving and accepting the transfer of patients from other internal EBNHC departments (ED or primary care), or from external agencies.
The charge nurse assigns the accepted patient to the BHC provider, as well as convene the interdisciplinary team huddles at start and end of each shift, and will routinely check in with all staff for status updates on each patient’s assessment and treatment progress, and potential transfers out.
