    Summary:


    The community liaison is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting community-based projects and programs and for providing each stakeholder with accurate and detailed information about the school, its activities, as well as long-range and short range plans. The community liaison is also responsible for strengthening relationships among the school and the community stakeholders.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Assists in creating, managing, monitoring, and evaluating a Community Education (CE) program.
    • Develops and recommends programs for the community, service organizations, and citizens to insure a relevant Community Education Program.
    • Promotes cooperative efforts among the school, community, public agencies, and business and industry.
    • Coordinates and monitors the volunteer and mentoring programs within the school
    • Serves as liaison with youth services providers and community agencies.
    • Facilitates meetings with community organizations, identifies issues, and establishes strategies to address those issues.
    • Prepares and presents information as requested to various organizations and groups.
    • Develops and maintains a database of information useful to the city and community organizations.
    • Disseminates information from that database as appropriate.
    • Develops informational and community outreach materials and forms.
    • Researches and as directed, originates, monitors, and administers grants.
    • Researches and identifies grants and other funds available to the school or to the community through the state or federal government.
    • Participates in community involvement team meetings to provide suggestions for appropriate interventions.
    • Coordinates and supervises all Department of Juvenile Justice activities.
    • Assist the social worker as he/she provides support services to at-risk students including individual and small group counseling; classroom character education; monitoring of student progress in the areas of academic achievement, attendance and behavior; parent communication and consultation with other staff and other services as needed and appropriate.
    • Evaluates state-funded programs to ensure parents of school-aged students have access.
    • Trains students to serve as jurors, bailiffs, attorneys and clerks for juvenile sentencing hearings for the school-based Teen Court program.
    • Provides consultation and training for school staff in delinquency prevention and intervention as needed.
    • Conducts workshops and seminars for teachers and administrators to keep them abreast of Teen Court activities.
    • Conducts seminars and workshops on restorative justice.

    Other Duties:


    Performs other job related duties that may be assigned.

    Qualifications:


    The essential functions for the position of community liaison include the physical and mental involvement requirements noted in this position description. It is also essential that the community liaison be able to follow the directives of the superiors in ensuring the harmonious operation of the department.

    Education and Experience:


    College degree required, preferred in education or related areas, such as psychology, mental health, social work, law, political science, etc. Possess a pleasing personality, poise and intellect. Ability to use good judgment in making decisions in accordance with rules, regulations and procedures. Evidence of successful work experience with children, adults or families in an educational or community environment.
