Crew Lead Job Description

As a Landscape Crew Lead specializing in full-service landscape installation, you will oversee and participate in the planning, execution, and completion of landscape construction projects. Your role involves leading a team to ensure the successful implementation of landscape designs, from initial site preparation to final installation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and leading a crew in landscape construction activities, including grading, excavation, planting, metalworking (such as fabricating steel edging, planter boxes, or decorative features), hardscaping (such as patios, pathways, retaining walls, and outdoor structures), irrigation installation, and lighting.
  • Collaborating with landscape designers to interpret and implement project plans
  • Ensuring the efficient use of resources, materials, and equipment to meet project timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Training and mentoring crew members on proper construction techniques, standards, efficiency, and enforcing safety protocols.
  • Managing subcontractors
  • Conducting quality inspections to ensure workmanship meets industry standards and client expectations.
  • Maintaining accurate project documentation, including progress reports and material usage records.
  • Communicating with clients to address questions, concerns, and project updates
  • Critical thinking skills for troubleshooting issues and providing creative solutions to overcome challenges during construction

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in landscape construction, with specialized expertise in natural and native central Texas landscaping, grading, excavation, hardscaping, welding, planting, fertilizing, and sustainable landscaping practices
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in using construction equipment and tools, including flux core welders, skid steers, circular saws, and more.
  • Knowledge of landscaping materials, plant species, and installation techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape design plans
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Education and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional training or certification in landscape construction, metalworking, or hardscaping is advantageous.
  • Strong grasp of English and Spanish is a plush

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily outdoors, involving physical labor and exposure to weather elements.
  • Flexibility in working hours to meet project deadlines, which may include weekends or evenings during peak construction periods.
