SUMMARY: The Assistant Manager makes a difference in the lives of pets by inspiring, leading and motivating others to perform at their best every day. It is your responsibility to create an environment of kindness and empathy towards pets, help spread our message, and employ effective processes. The Assistant Manager will be able to run the store in the absence of the District Manager. The Assistant Manager will assist in managing and promoting all aspects of the business: buying, selling, pricing, merchandising, training, and managing the store staff, in order to meet and exceed the store’s sales and financial goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs Manager duties in the absence of the District Manager:
Supports all aspects of store operations to achieve performance objectives established for the store in areas of customer engagement, productivity, presentation, payroll, inventory, etc.
Seeks out and builds community partnerships with animal welfare groups and related business partners.
Accurately updates and completes paperwork, reporting and POS transactions.
Support the District Manager to effectively and efficiently onboard, train, coach, manage, and motivate a team of pet enthusiasts in building customer relationships, store operations, merchandising.
Maintains continuous and open communication with the District Manager on all aspects of the store operations.
Ensures compliance with all company policies, procedures and directives.
Enters information in the system regarding the customer and specific information for their pet such as, but not limited to; the pet’s name, dietician restrictions, products recommended, and samples provided if applicable.
Approaches and engage every customer in conversation using open-ended questions and active listening to determine their needs and provide them with appropriate item selections.
Coaches and leads team members through continuous training to provide an exceptional guest experience.
Organizes and implement special events and promotions in store.
Ensures environment for staff and shoppers is vibrant, organized, and maintained while executing clearance strategy and assisting in inventory counts
Performs all other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual frequently moves about the store to monitor the associates work, engage with customers and check productivity. The individual constantly interacts with customers with employees to answer questions, resolve issues, and contribute to a welcoming environment. The individual occasionally will move product, position themselves close to the ground, and view products overhead to evaluate product levels, stock, and assist customers to find merchandise. The individual constantly comes in contact with different animals on a daily basis. The individual is responsible for moving up to 30 pounds of product. This individual occasionally wheels and distributes heavy products to customers by using a cart.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may occasionally be exposed to loud equipment. The individual frequently works in a controlled climate. The individual is frequently exposed and caring for animals throughout their role.
