ENT Center has an opening for a scheduling and prior authorization coordinator. This position works with a team responsible for obtaining prior authorizations and/or referrals before surgeries are rendered. Responsibilities also include the coordination and scheduling of procedures. This position works with the physicians, medical assistants, financial advocates to ensure authorizations are completed before patients proceed to the operating room.

We expect a high level of computer literacy for daily navigation through several computer programs, trouble shooting and completion of tasks. This position is team based and requires a high level of communication between departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate computer to enter and retrieve data.

2. Verifies insurance eligibility, benefits and network status.

3. Obtains pre-authorization and referrals from insurance companies for surgery recommended by healthcare provider.

4. Ensures accurate CPT, ICD and medical records are submitted in the authorization request.

5. Ensure that each surgery has been scheduled correctly and in harmony with the doctor and facility's preferences.

6. Communicate effectively with medical assistants assigned in each physician's clinic.

7. Provide excellent customer service while scheduling patients and coordinating surgery schedules.

8. Creates detailed documentation and maintains the authorization paper trail.

9. Take appropriate in office message tasks and respond to each task request in a timely manner.

10. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

OTHER DUTIES:

1. Additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned.

2. Maintain confidentiality of patient records and employee/co-worker information.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

1. Requires prolonged sitting.

2. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and other office equipment.

3. Requires prolonged viewing of a computer monitor.

4. May require some bending, stooping, lifting, and stretching for supplies etc.

5. Must possess all physical abilities necessary to perform the job.

6. Noise level is moderate with constant conversations, computers, printers, telephones, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: Must have a high school diploma or GED.

2. Language skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as insurance letters, physician notes and corresponding medical terminology.

3. Reasoning skills: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form. Able to solve problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

4. Effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions.

5. Work scheduled hours for position to get the job done for the day before going home.

6. Preferred experience with insurance verification and authorizations.
