Primary Purpose:

Assist in general maintenance, preventative maintenance and repairs of buildings, structures, and equipment such as mechanical, electrical & sanitary systems throughout the district.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Valid Texas driver’s license
• High School Diploma or equivalent

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
• Ability to operate hand and power tools
• Ability to work independently
• Apprentice knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems.

Experience:

• Prefer two year experience in general building maintenance

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair

• Assist with minor carpentry duties such as repair of ceilings, bathroom partitions, shelves, braces, doors & windows, dry erase boards, cubbies, flag holders, etc.
• Assist with minor plumbing duties such as the install and repair of faucets, valves, drains, traps, safety valves, filters & pipe fittings.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and document tasks and results.
• Assist with minor flooring, woodworking and wall repairs.
• Assist with minor electrical duties such as the replacement or repair of light bulbs, ballasts, exit lights, fuses, switches, and plugs.
• Prepare and paint interior & exterior surfaces and clean area and equipment.
• Assist with minor repairs on equipment such as bleachers, lockers, tables, chairs, desk, etc
• Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities and equipment

• Evaluate and prioritize maintenance needs, building deficiencies and emergency needs and communicate these to the Supervisor or Dispatcher
• Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture and equipment.
• Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by Supervisor.
• Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including door closures and door handles.
• Assist with installing ceiling and flooring materials.

Driving

• Operate light truck to transport tools, furniture and equipment throughout the district.

Safety

• Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Participates in training and safety programs.
• Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the Supervisor or Dispatcher immediately.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Other

• Maintain Confidentiality.
• Interact positively with employees and school community to provide needed maintenance information to promote the district in a favorable manner.
• Communicate and collaborate with campus & district staff to enhance service delivered customer satisfaction.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Work irregular hours, respond to after-hours emergency calls and serve on call per scheduled rotation as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, ladders and other tools.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching. Work outside and inside. Accessing roofs and using ladders. Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes and odors. Exposure to mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.70 - $25.48 per hour
