HIRING RANGE: $27.92 - $33.50 per hour
POSITION RANGE: $27.92 - $44.67 per hour SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Inspect, repair and maintain functional parts of mechanical equipment and machinery. SUPERVISED BY: Director of Transportation MANAGED BY: Fleet Manager PROVIDES SUPERVISION TO: Vehicle Technician Helper ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
Demonstrate a working knowledge of and experience in all phases of vehicle maintenance, repair, and safety standards.
Respond to emergency calls, determine nature of the problem, and see that the necessary repairs are completed. Must respond to off-hour emergencies.
Assist in accident investigation. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the dynamics of vehicle collisions. Gather accident data, provide analyze, and technical assistance.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of federal and state standards (DOT, CDE, EPA, FCC and OSHA).
Diagnose vehicle problems, prioritize work orders, and make safe, cost effective, and timely decisions regarding repairs.
Overhaul gas and diesel engines, transmissions, rear differentials. Repair windshields.
Repair hydraulic systems.
Make recommendations to the Fleet Manager regarding replacement and purchasing of vehicles.
Supervise manages and schedules the Vehicle Technician? Helper.
Provide and maintain inventory of personal tools and inventory of shop supplies, parts, and shop tools.
Document repair orders, preventive maintenance work orders, and CDE state inspections, as
required by the Department of Education.
Work independently of other transportation personnel.
Perform CDE annual safety inspections of all district pupil transportation vehicles.
Perform all dispatch duties in Supervisor's, Director's or Dispatcher's absence.
Immediately notify the Fleet Manager of any known situation, which may be hazardous to students or staff.
Check and accurately record bulk tank readings and pump meter readings daily to meet
EPA regulations.
Maintain, operate, pre-trip and clean District vehicles.
Maintain clean and safe work area. Perform duties in a safe manner. Maintain awareness of others in work area.
Train new bus drivers on air brake systems, transmissions and retarders.
Perform welding, machine work incidental to the completion of repair work.
Perform Department of Transportation inspections for support fleet.
Perform other duties assigned by the Fleet Manager
CONTACTS: Vendors, all transportation staff, administrative staff, public, law enforcement agencies. QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
5 years mechanic experience with gas and/or diesel equipment or a combination of 4 years experience as Vehicle Technician with vocational training.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid Colorado commercial driver license with endorsement (CDL-BP2), or acquire within 90 days of hire.
Valid CDE Inspectors Certification (or acquire within 1 year of hire).
Brake Inspectors Qualification Certification, as per Federal DOT Law #49CFR396.25 (or acquire within 1 year of hire).
