HIGH SCHOOL DEAN OF STUDENTS:

Red Canyon High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate educator who will work to develop and promote a culture of high expectations and levels of support to ensure success for all students. The Dean of Students will work as a member of the administrative team to ensure a quality learning environment that is safe and supportive to all. In addition to handling daily behavior intervention and discipline issues, this job will include leadership with MTSS, PBIS, and our Restorative Practices program in the school.
ABOUT RCHS:

Red Canyon is the district's Alternative High School. We are a community centered around meeting the diverse needs of our students in order to develop individuals who are respectful, community-minded, hopeful, and self-aware. We have an extremely diverse population of students who come to us for a myriad of reasons ranging from smaller class sizes and strong teacher-student relationships to alternative schedules and pathways to graduation. We serve students in two different buildings, so as a result, teachers have opportunities to teach in both Gypsum and Edwards.
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

Collaborates with and assists the principal and assistant principal in the management of the school. Provides leadership in implementing school wide discipline plan.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

• Select, supervise and evaluate support staff.
• Provide for a safe and orderly work environment for students and staff.
• Provide leadership and support in implementation of building discipline plan.
• Establish and maintain relationships with students which respect their dignity as persons and which promote their learning.
• Implement procedures to ensure fair and consistent student attendance and student decorum.
• Establish and maintain positive, productive working relationships with staff members.
• Advocate and support parents assuming an active role in their children's schooling.
• Assist Special Education staff in developing student education plans.
• Monitor the condition of the building and grounds to assure a clean, orderly and safe environment.
• Demonstrate positive and clear communication with all individuals and groups.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Active teacher authorization or license issued by the State of Colorado.
2. Must be "Highly Qualified" according to the State of Colorado's definition of "Highly Qualified" under the No Child Left Behind Act (effective January 1, 2004 for current teachers and 2002-03 for newly hired teachers).
3. Possess relevant prior experience including 3 years of successful teaching experience.
4. Demonstrate effective problem solving skills.
5. Demonstrate conflict resolution skills.
6. Possess (or gain within 6 months) knowledge of basics in Special Education.
7. Dean of Students or School Administration experience preferred.
