Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves more than 1,135 students in grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade. E.L. Haynes operates two campuses in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC, and offers a rigorous educational program designed to prepare students to succeed in the college of their choice.

About Our Academic Program:
E.L. Haynes provides a rigorous and engaging college preparatory curriculum for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Our instructional program provides intensive learning experiences that deepen understanding at all grade levels so that every student is prepared to become kind and curious community members, lifelong learners, and leaders of social justice.

About the Position:
The Math Intervention Teacher is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of math. The math intervention teacher provides individual or small group instruction to students in need of targeted support.
This 10-month position reports to the campus Principal and receives guidance and coaching from members of the Instructional Leadership Team. This is a temporary role for the 2024-25 School Year. The position will expire on June 30, 2025.
Starting Salary: $65,000-$110,500
You Will:
  • Plan and deliver exceptional, small group instruction based on E. L. Haynes' rigorous academic standards, curriculum framework, graduate profile, and student assessment data;
  • Implement and facilitate evidence-based math intervention programs;
  • Manage a caseload of students to set ambitious intervention goals that rapidly advance students to grade-level performance. In collaboration with lead teachers, communicate progress regularly with students, staff, and families;
  • Conduct and analyze on-going formative and summative assessments of student performance in order to effectively implement and track support;
  • Ensure a continuum of support for students across academic, socio-emotional, and other domains, including serving as an as an active member of grade-level planning and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) teams;
  • Implement culturally relevant and responsive teaching and student supports through collaboration with instructional leadership and special education, MLL, and other teachers;
  • Create a positive and supportive classroom culture and environment that puts relationships with students first;
  • In collaboration with lead teachers, engage parents and families in their students' success;
  • Be an active member of the school community, attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours, and completing other duties in support of the mission of E.L. Haynes as assigned.
You have:
  • Three or more years of Math teaching experience in a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse school;
  • A deep knowledge of elementary school Math grade-level standards and a clear understanding of standards-based curriculum and standards-based assessment;
  • Successful experience bringing students to or above grade level through effective instruction and scaffolds;
  • A growth mindset that recognizes students (and families) are capable of engaging with grade-level standards and rigorous content;
  • Expertise in building a positive and supportive classroom culture and productive rapport with staff students, and families;
  • Used models and exemplars to drive instruction; and
  • Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills in order to ensure student success.
You might also have:
  • A deep knowledge of the Math curriculum used at E.L. Haynes; and
  • Successful experience bringing students to or above grade level through planning and executing small group instruction and providing effective scaffolds.
