Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves nearly 1,200 students in grades Pre-K 3 through 12th grade. E.L. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Educational Aide for Autism (EA) is responsible for supporting students with autism and providing them with administrative and classroom support. The EA performs various tasks, including working with students individually and in small groups, reinforcing daily lessons, motivating learning, tracking progress, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. This is a 10-month, full-time position reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Support Services.
Educational Aide - Special Education (Autism)

You will:
Support the delivery of effective specially designed instruction under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers by:
  • Assists the teachers, therapists, and other program personnel in providing an effective specialized experience for children with Autism to maximize the learning, speech, language, social, cognitive, and motor development of each student.
  • Monitor and assist students as needed in their daily routines across classroom activities and/or settings.
  • Assist in collecting data for behavioral or academic progress.
  • Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated and demonstrated by the classroom teacher.
  • appropriately communicate with all team members regarding student progress and/or concerns.
  • Participate in planning meetings regarding classroom curricular expectations and student needs across
  • Assist individual students as necessary to follow routines, follow directions, follow an individual schedule, and/or complete tasks.
  • Monitor students at all times, including on/off the bus, lunch, and times of transition.
  • Meet students in the morning to unload buses and assist with loading or unloading as necessary.
  • Assist with students requiring self-help skills in safety, eating, and toileting.
  • Facilitate the teaching procedures demonstrated by the classroom teacher for 1:1, small group, or whole class instruction, including errorless learning and verbal behavior techniques.
  • Create materials as time allows and directed by the teacher.
  • Clean up after students as necessary and at the end of the day.
  • Prepare the room daily for instruction in the morning or at the end of the day as designated by the teacher.
  • Communicate any concerns to the classroom teacher regarding student performance and concerns.
Be an active member of the E. L. Haynes Professional Learning Community by:
  • Owning your learning through participation in ongoing instructional feedback cycles and individual and professional team development;
  • Participating in regular team meetings with the classroom teacher to discuss and maintain a productive working relationship;
  • Maintaining appropriate skills and certification for the assigned student(s); for example, sign language, Crisis Prevention Institute, or health and safety-related training; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Starting Salary: $40,000-$43,000
You have:
  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • A belief that all children from every background must receive an excellent education and can reach high levels of academic achievement;
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students and families from racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds;
  • Experience with early childhood or elementary school-aged children or experience working with students with disabilities and/or emotional and behavioral needs;
  • Skill in the use of document-based questions to assess student learning to support content area teachers;
  • The ability to support a standards-based curriculum, standards-based assessments, and differentiated instruction;
  • Self-motivation, especially when juggling competing priorities;
  • Ability to think strategically, translate thoughts into action, and follow through;
  • Strong collaboration skills to ensure student success;
  • Ability to build and sustain a positive and supportive classroom culture;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; and
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination .
You might also have:
  • Passed the ParaPro Praxis Exam or have at least 48 credit hours towards a Bachelor's degree;
  • Oral and/or written proficiency in Spanish.
