The Role

Research Associate - Molecular Characterization. The Characterization Team is one of Dyno's core platform teams, responsible forhigh throughput molecular characterization of AAV capsids in vivo and in vitro. The Characterization Team develops state of the art workflows, leveraging automation and developing new capabilities to accurately capture capsid tropism at scale. Under the guidance of senior research staff, you will be involved in the extraction and purification of nucleic acids from mammalian cells and tissues, followed by detailed molecular analysis prior to high-throughput sequencing.

How You Will Contribute

As a Research Associate - Molecular Characterization, you will use your molecular biology skills to execute the workflows and protocols which are fundamental to the Characterization Team function. You will also learn and execute new assays as the need arises. Your work in this role will be in collaboration with other research associates, scientists, engineers and computational biologists throughout Dyno. You will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to a diverse set of projects. You will be responsible for understanding project goals and for creatively optimizing solutions to ensure their success.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in sample inventory and dissection of tissues (mammalian cells, non-human primate and mouse tissues)
  • Extract, purify, and enrich nucleic acids from mammalian cells and tissues
  • Run quantification assays on purified nucleic acids (e.g., qPCR, RT-qPCR)
  • Perform next-generation sequencing library preparations (amplicon sequencing) and associated QC steps
  • Record sample information and experimental procedures using Dyno's LIMS system
  • Assist in lab organization, including ordering supplies and restocking
  • Follow lab protocols and safety regulations

Basic qualifications

  • BA or MA in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related fields
  • 2 years hands-on wet lab experience
  • Experience in DNA/RNA purification and analysis protocols (qPCR, RT-qPCR, etc.)
  • Molecular biology proficiency (PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis and imaging, gel excision and purification)
  • Experience in tissue handling and mammalian cell culture
  • Ability to follow advanced protocols and procedures
  • Ability to document and maintain an organized account of lab work and results

Preferred qualifications

  • Next-generation sequencing library preparation
  • Focused experience in tissue processing
  • Familiarity with ELN-LIMS data management software (e.g. Benchling)
