DIRECTOR - PLANNING & INVENTORY

In this role, you will lead the planning and inventory team of assigned business unit(s) and develop, implement, and monitor strategy for operational planning of orders through the manufacturing process for all supported locations. This person in this role will also effectively set capacity plans, schedule orders to meet plans, set target inventory levels, and manage pacing or raw material procurement levels.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DIRECTOR - PLANNING & INVENTORY

  • Develop, implement, and monitor strategy for operations planning of orders through the manufacturing process for all supported operations locations. Effectively set capacity levels, schedule orders to meet business goals, manage orders, and set procurement levels for the business.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor strategy to set aggressive inventory targets and maintain proper levels based on typical product flow, expected production variability, and business objectives.
  • Develop new processes and systems, (including ERP systems) to improve the capacity utilization, order reliability, and working capital dollars. Improve existing IT systems to take maximum advantage of their capabilities. Drive discipline and data integrity throughout the planning team.
  • Develop metrics to effectively monitor and communicate progress toward key goals.
  • Develop an internal and external network of peers in the Operations Planning, Purchasing and Inventory Management field.
  • Build a constrained forecast based on sales inputs and operational constraints. Ensure forecast maximizes the utilization of company assets and maximizes business objectives. Monitor and improve forecast accuracy. Manage the business' S&OP process.
  • Provide necessary training to internal personnel in all aspects of demand management, forecasting, order entry, procurement, etc. Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for procurement, to manage change and balance supply and demand to achieve the optimal balance of customer responsiveness and production stability.
  • Ensure a safe workplace. Promote ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business.
  • Accountable for the performance and results of related multiple areas or departments and/or function(s). Achieve change related to culture transformation, process improvement and enhanced business results.
  • Executes departmental and functional business plans and contributes to the development of discipline strategies.
  • Direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems that cross functions and/or disciplines.
  • Must be willing to travel at least 25% between locations.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE DIRECTOR - PLANNING & INVENTORY

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or similar field.
  • Ten or more years of manufacturing or planning experience or 5 or more years of manufacturing or planning experience plus an advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBA, in Supply Chain Management or Finance).
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working in an operations planning role and should be familiar with S&OP process management, inventory management across a manufacturing system, and capacity planning.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a management role.
  • Must have experience with ERP systems and understand the concepts related to manufacturing operations including but not limited to part number creation, part routings, work center creation, work order transacting, and BOM creation, and routing-based product costing principles.
  • Knowledge of basic financial and accounting principles and the relationship to inventory and procurement. Understands the importance of order reliability and maximizing capacity to meet customer expectations and business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written communication. Ability to formulate concise presentations which effectively address key areas of focus.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks against multiple competing priorities.
  • Drives accountability; sets high expectations for performance.
  • Ability to motivate, train and develop other professionals.
  • Trustworthy and able to influence others. Ability to gain consensus both within and across departments.
