Head of Physical and Health Education Department

Compensation commensurate upon experience: $85,000-$115,000

Hours: 7:30AM-4:00PM (plus after school coaching responsibilities)Start Date: August 2024

Position Overview

Dwight School is seeking a Head of Physical and Health Education (PHE), for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, to be responsible for ensuring successful development and delivery of PE and Health curricula to students from preschool through twelfth grade. The goal of this department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to live healthy, active lives. The Head of Physical and Health Education will oversee all physical education and health education with particular attention to:

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of dedicated physical education teachers
• Delivering innovative teaching strategies which engage, support, and develop student success in PHE
• Fostering excellence in learning, curriculum, and pedagogy throughout the department
• Encouraging physically healthy and active lifestyle choices and habits
• Developing novel programs to advance the health, fitness, and wellness of the entire Dwight community
• Designing and implementing schedules that best utilize the School’s resources, faculty, and physical space for student learning
• Coaching of Middle and/or High School athletics teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field is required (concentration/specialty in Physical and Health Education highly preferred)
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching Physical and Health Education
• Experience within the IB Primary (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP) Programs is advantageous
• Coaching qualifications and/or experience coaching middle and high school athletics
• Experience teaching to a range of learners
• Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight community
• Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, and flexibility to the school environment
