Duquesne University is Hiring a Weekend Evening Library Assistant (Part-time) – Gumberg Library Near Pittsburgh, PA

Reporting to the Circulation Manager, the Weekend Evening Library Assistant is responsible for providing courteous and efficient services to library users, as well as ensuring the safety and security of the building. Duties include answering user questions; greeting patrons; resolving user disputes; closing the 3rd floor of the library. The incumbent will respond to emergencies, alarms, and other work-related issues which require problem resolution, including preparing and filing Incident Report forms describing security incidents.

Hours are primarily Friday 5pm – 10pm, Saturday 5pm-10pm; hours may fluctuate according to business needs.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors the 3rd floor during evening weekend hours ensuring the safety and security of library users

Answers basic questions about the library webpage and services

Makes referrals to the library faculty for research needs

Assists with the technology in the rooms/load paper into the copier

Communicates with Public Safety and/or coordinate evacuation of the floor if needed

Closes the 3rd floor by following the evening checklist

Completes the end of shift report

The duties of this position will be performed under minimal supervision; therefore, the use of independent judgment will be necessary for resolving complex problems

Completes other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

High school diploma and a minimum of one-year experience working in a public service area of a library

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions

Demonstrable skills will be needed in Microsoft Office in order to compile reports

Ability to prioritize tasks for self, and to adapt to changes in workflows

Working knowledge of a library

Strong communication skills and a commitment to customer service

Strong organizational skills

Basic computer literacy including the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets
