Duquesne University is Hiring a Medical Education Specialist – College of Osteopathic Medicine Near Pittsburgh, PA

The Medical Education Specialist will assist the Office of Medical Education in the delivery of the first and second year curriculum. The position will be essential to the smooth operation of the curriculum and will be responsible for the administration of assessments, course grading, as well as the posting of materials. The position will require significant interaction with students, staff and faculty, and an amicable professional demeanor is essential. The position reports to the Director of Medical Education.

The Medical Education Specialist is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Office of Medical Education. This individual’s primary duties include compiling and formatting all classroom exams, administering and grading exams, maintaining and calculating grades, posting of all teaching materials, taking attendance, setting up course and faculty evaluations and updating curriculum maps. Please note that at the completion of the MS 1 year, you may be required to migrate with the same class into the MS 2 year, to provide continuity of support for our students.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compile, organize, and manage all teaching and testing materials for the medical student class including: updating curriculum maps; posting teaching materials and assigning courses and other educational modules on Canvas; compiling, formatting, and administering/proctoring all classroom exams and quizzes; maintaining a secure testing environment; calculating and maintaining grades in all classroom and laboratory courses; administering and organizing post-course evaluations.

Prepare and support the lecture halls for daily curricular activities; manage the recording and posting of lectures taking place in the lecture hall on Canvas; maintain class attendance records and contribute to the excused absence process.

Assist with the organization and maintenance of Office of Medical Education files and records.

Along with the Director of Medical Education, represent DUQCOM’s Medical Eduation department at designated DUQCOM meetings, on-campus meetings, and program events as appropriate.

Under the leadership of the Director of Medical Education, support faculty and staff needs with respect to curricular development and delivery; assist with development and organization of programs that will be implemented at the DUQCOM which celebrate and recognize cultural diversity and foster a sense of belonging for all members of the DUQCOM community.

Assist with implementation of student events such as open houses, accepted student days, orientations, white coat ceremonies, graduations, and other events; work collaboratively with members of Duquesne University departments to participate in university open houses and events.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, preferably in a life science or STEM-related field.

Willingness and ability to utilize new technologies relevant to the position

Knowledge of, or the ability to learn internal University systems

Experience and training in a higher education environment, with knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes but is not limited to demonstrated proficiency with current Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher as well as Outlook e-mail

Must be mobile and have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Preferred qualifications:

Prior experience working in the healthcare field, medical education field, or other student-facing positions is preferred
