POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive Director, Alumni Engagementwill lead the Alumni Engagement (AE) efforts and team for the Division ofUniversity Advancement. The incumbent will develop and manage the strategicobjectives of the AE efforts, including local and national initiatives andevents, alumni recognition initiatives and events, the planning and executionof comprehensive homecoming and class and affinity reunion events andactivities, development and management of a comprehensive national AlumniAssociation network and serve as the chief liaison to the DU campus and AlumniBoard. The incumbent will manage and ensure a comprehensive schedule of alumniengagement events and initiatives and shall be responsible for the specificattainment of goals and objectives related to alumni activities for the entireUA team and Alumni Association Board of Governors. In addition, this positionwill manage additional projects as assigned by the Senior Associate VicePresident (SAVP) and Senior Vice President (SVP) of University Advancement.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
In coordination with the SAVP and SVP ofAdvancement, executes and leads AE's strategic objectives and vision related tolocal, national, and campus-based alumni events and activities. Current andfuture local alumni events and activities (Pittsburgh Zoo, Pittsburgh Pirates,Century Club, distinguished speaker series luncheons downtown, etc.), currentand future national alumni events and activities (alumni chapters, admittedstudent receptions and send-off events, university presidential events, etc.),and campus events and activities (homecoming and family weekend, reunions,Founders week, Easter Egg Hunt, Photos with Santa, summer social gatherings foreach school/college, etc.) will be developed using industry best practices, DUpolicies and procedures, and include critical stakeholders (DU leadership, UAteam, alumni, campus partners, etc.). Will attend events and activities in theevenings and on weekends and travel locally, regionally, and nationally tosupport these events and activities.
Acts as the key liaison forAE to the Alumni Board of Governors with the Board President, committees withinthe Alumni Board of Governors (Governance & Engagement, Executive,Volunteer Engagement, and Communications), campus partners (all Schools,Library, President's Office, ODESI, Veterans Affairs Office, CareerDevelopment, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, etc.)
Directly oversee and provideleadership to a team of professional colleagues. Meet at least monthly withdirect reports and the entire AE team, administer performance appraisals forthe AE team, provide training and onboarding to AE team members, and provideand delegate responsibilities and projects among the AE team that will lead tothe most efficient and effective results toward overall university advancementefforts.
Other related duties asassigned and/or needed that will lead to philanthropic impact at DuquesneUniversity.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
SUPERVISORYDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises a team of AlumniEngagement employees (approximately 5 FTEs).
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from anaccredited institution.
5-8 years of experience inalumni engagement operations, preferably in higher education.
Valid driver's license
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree from anaccredited institution.
Alternately, thesuccessful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience andtraining, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required toperform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, thefollowing:
Knowledge of best practicesin alumni engagement policies, procedures, and methods.
Ability and willingness totravel 30% of the time locally, statewide, and throughout the US.
Excellentorganizational, project management, multi-tasking, and leadership skills.
Exceptional communication(verbal/written), listening, and follow-through skills; collegial andrespectful.
Able to work independentlywithin the boundaries of established University and advancement practices.
Consistently meetsdeadlines/deliverables and standards for quality work.
Entrepreneurial approach to problem-solvingand demonstrated success in exceeding goals and expectations.
Broad knowledge offundraising principles and all aspects of the gift cycle Expertise and facilitywith operating systems such as Slate (or another advancement CRM), iModules, CVENT,DocuSign, and MS Office suite (especially Excel).
Exceptional interpersonalskills
