Duquesne University is Hiring a Coordinator of Student Wellness - Residence Life Near Pittsburgh, PA

The Coordinator of Student Wellness role seeks to combine the abilities of a mental health professional and a live-in residential life professional into a new and unique role that can support students in the Duquesne residential community. This is a twelve (12) month, live-in position with room and board (meal plan) included in the compensation. The primary role will be to help create and maintain a supportive and positive living and learning environment in on-campus housing. The Coordinator of Student Wellness will do this by establishing and maintaining a counseling and training service presence in the campus residential community, conducting individual and group counseling, diagnostic and crisis assessment, and intervention, developing training for professional and student staff, and addressing stigma and barriers to seeking counseling and therapy services.
As a condition of employment, Duquesne University requires all new employees —full-time and part-time, including adjunct faculty—to get a COVID-19 vaccine and provide proof of their vaccination upon commencement of employment.
New employees requesting a religious or documented medical exemption from the vaccine must complete and submit a Duquesne University exemption request form for review and approval. To receive the appropriate exemption request form, contact hrservices@duq.edu. Employees with approved exemptions will be required to be tested on a regular basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides short-term individual and group therapy in the residential community.
Serves as a consultant and resource for residence life professional and paraprofessional staff.
Provides on-call crisis assessment and intervention and coordinate emergency services with the University Police and Office of Residence Life staff.
Conducts mental health assessments, identify needs, and develop case formulations; Maintain accurate and confidential case files. This will include follow up after all on call crisis interventions.
Partners with residence life staff members in development of student wellness focused programmatic efforts.
Develops and implements mental health and wellness-focused training seminars and workshops to address preventative and developmental needs of residential students. Also, partner with the Director of Residence Life through training workshops that are developed to prepare student leaders in the residential community. Topics to include anxiety reduction, depression mitigation, suicide prevention, body image, eating disorders, gender/sexuality identity, drug/alcohol/substance use, sexual violence prevention.
Implements a suicide intervention and bystander prevention protocol and program for residential students in partnership with the Director of Residence Life and Assistant Vice President of Residence Life.
Completes other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field from an accredited program.
Preferred qualifications:
Licensure or pursuit of licensure from the State of Pennsylvania preferred.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Experience providing psychotherapy diagnostic assessment and outreach.
Knowledge of suicide prevention intervention and training.
Experience working with a diverse college student population and a demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and diversity.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working and therapeutic relationships.
Characteristics that inspire respect, trust and confidence with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent coping skills and ability to handle an array of mental health problems and stressful situations with the ability to quickly recognize, assess, and provide appropriate treatment or solution in a crisis situation.
Working proficiency with office and teletherapy support tools and electronic records software.
Maintenance of confidentiality in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
Knowledge of applicable laws including FERPA and HIPPA.
Valid driver’s license is required.
