POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Coordinator of External Programs, under the direction of theCoordinator of External Programs, will manage the Department of CatholicStudies’ external programs. Theseinclude local strategic partnerships, and national and internationalinitiatives, which continue and extend the external work of the Department ofCatholic Studies.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promote and expand through local external partnerships of theDepartment of Catholic Studies, particularly through diocesan engagement. Planjoint events for students and the public, which when hosted at Duquesne mayinvolve finance, marketing, communication, Conference and Event Services,parking, and transportation. Other local collaborations may include religiousorders, and others with a Catholic or Christian mission and orientation.

At the direction of the Coordinator of External Programs,develop, plan, and execute special projects and initiatives. Included underthis function are two special projects that are already in an advanced state,namely the national and international partnerships that have created the annualCatholic Studies Symposium gatherings and the Catholic Studies in Rome project.Duquesne has been and remains the principal convener for these projects, withthe intention that by 30 June 2026 the national Catholic Studies partnerscreate a consortium entity to take on these functions, and the Catholic Studiesin Rome program establishes its own administrative organization.

Perform research on the Catholic Studies movement and relatedinitiatives, with special attention to the United States and Canada, and otherresearch in Catholic higher education appropriate to professional development.

At the direction of the Coordinator of External Programs, mayassist with the monthly budget reconciliation for the Department, as well asconsult, advise, and support budgeting and operations, and any other projectsthat may emerge and are assigned by the Coordinator of External Programs.

Travel is required 10% of the time.

Completes otherduties as assigned.

SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisesstudents only (1-2).

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Experience networking andbuilding collaborative projects between Catholic educational and ecclesialinstitutions at the local, national, and/or international level would be amajor advantage, regardless of degrees earned.

1-3 years University Administrative experience (or equivalent) in arelevant area.

Valid driver’s license in good standing.

Preferred qualifications:

MA or PhD preferred, in a field of the Humanities, with emphasis on someaspect of the Roman Catholic Tradition

Alternately, the successful candidatemay possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, whichprovides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essentialjob functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Familiarity withCatholic education and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is essential.

1-3 years ofadministrative experience in a professional capacity is important, preferablyin a university or equivalent mission-driven organization.

Excellentinterpersonal and written communication skills, including editorial skills areessential.

An informedunderstanding and appreciation of the mission of the Department of CatholicStudies is desirable but not required for this position.

Project/ProcessManagement: Strong organizational, project, planning and cooperative managementskills are important.

Computer/Technical:Strong computer and software skills desireable. Knowledge of and facility with various social media platforms andrelevant current communications methods desirable. List and datamanagement skills essential, e.g. ongoing development of donor database, emaillists, strategic lists.

WrittenCommunications: Reports, grant applications, general correspondence, routineemail correspondence.

Oral Communications: Presentationskills; coordinating meetings and programs.
