DuPagePads is Hiring an Education Aide (part-time) Near Downers Grove, IL

Position: Education Aide - Part Time
Summary: This position is responsible for providing support for the educational needs of DuPage County students experiencing homelessness and staying with DuPagePads through its Interim Housing program. While the District Homeless Liaisons will continue to perform the responsibilities set out for them by law, the Education Aide will serve to supplement and support the districts. This is especially true for the districts that serve the area in which the interim program is housed. The Education Aide will also support those students that are part of the interim program and attend surrounding school districts as their "school of origin."
Reports To: Director, Education & Employment Solutions
Responsibilities: (to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • Support families with meeting the social and emotional needs that students have experienced while in shelter settings.
  • Work collaboratively with Education and Employment Director and Full Time Education Specialist with enrichment activities.
  • Assist with school registration for families who need assistance currently at the IHC location and when transitioning to housing from shelter.
  • Ensure students are connected with tutors and other school supports, as needed.
  • Assist with volunteer tutoring program to assist in student learning.
  • Serve as one of the Education connection points with local libraries and other community providers regarding learning programs.
  • Serve as one of the education contacts and attend meetings between schools and DuPage/Pads
  • Help assist students and their families with connecting to the school for transportation.
  • Assist families in getting school clothing and school supplies.
  • Understand all federal guidelines as they pertain to the eligibility of children and provision of services for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Program
  • Maintain documentation on all services provided to children and youth.
  • Implement case management services, monitor student/family progress and status, and make referrals to other professional staff members or community agencies as needed.
  • Education Specialist will collaborate with Education and Employment Director and Full Time Education Specialist and other relevant staff members of the Education Program.
  • Assist with transporting children from Interim Housing Center to Empowerment Center location.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel 10.
  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, poverty, behavioral health, and educational needs.
  • Effective crisis intervention skills
  • Must have evening and weekend availability.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, or 1-3 years’ experience in related field preferred
  • Experience in educational support and housing-related activities a plus.
Other:

1.Flexible hours required. 20 Hours Per Week, Days and Times May Vary based on the needs of the Program.

2.Be able to lift 10 pounds.

3.Possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet agency requirements.
Classification Status: Non-exempt, Part-Time 20 hours per week.
Pay: Starting at $21.00/hour
Benefits: An employee in this position will earn 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked.
