POSITION SUMMARY:

This Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic I position primarily focuses on controls and electrical systems (E&I). The position is part of a Maintenance Team that is also responsible for upgrades and repairs to paper mill equipment and supporting areas. Candidate also performs preventive and predictive maintenance on paper machine equipment as well as mill supporting equipment such as piping systems, building, etc. This position repairs and fabricates parts; maintains and installs equipment, machinery, and coordination systems essential in the 24-hour operation of the paper mill.

Electrical & Instrumentation Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, update and repair industrial control systems and power distribution systems including electric motors, motor control devices, variable speed drives and PLC’s.
  • Calibrate and tune VFD’s
  • Run conduit and duct, etc.
  • Read and understand manuals, blueprints, schematics, ladder logic
  • Oil and grease motor bearings as required
  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues, both mechanical and electrical
  • Make mechanical, piping and electrical repairs
  • Working knowledge of motor control circuits
  • Desire to learn in order to stay ahead of changing technology
  • Ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives
  • Exercise sound judgement and discretion in decision making in all phases of responsibility
  • Maintain accurate equipment files such as maintenance and inventory logs, manuals and blueprints

Maintenance Mechanic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean, lubricate and repair bearings (roller, spherical and taper bore), gears, shafts, and other machinery components
  • Operate maintenance tools including lathe, grinder, drill and milling machines to repair and fabricate machine part, jigs, fixtures, etc.
  • Assemble, install, and maintain mill piping and related pneumatic and hydraulic equipment including gauges, valves, pressure regulators and related equipment
  • Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, and plasma cutters; ability to MIG, TIG, and Stick weld
  • Rigg rolls and equipment
  • Layout and fabricate components from sketches or verbal concepts
  • Knowledge of pump from chemical metering to large centrifugal pumps
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to fabricate parts from blueprints or drawings
  • Perform precision alignments using various methods 
  • Basic electrical knowledge to include, but not limited to
    • 480-volt 3 phase power systems
    • Use of electrical meters to test and troubleshoot electrical problems
    • Install ridged conduit
    • Ability to wire new motors
    • Install and maintain network wiring 
  • Must adhere to all safety rules and policies
  • Responsible for clean-up of shop and work sites in conjunction with quality guidelines
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and assigned by management 

 Pay Range: 38 to 42.00/hour depending on skill level and experience.

Education/Experience:

This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of multi-craft (millwright/mechanic) experience with an emphasis in controls and electrical systems.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English. Ability to effectively comprehend and follow through on simple instructions.

Math Ability:

Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Attention to detail and organized approach to work. Must be able to set priorities and work with minimal supervision, honesty, assertiveness, team-player, and sense of urgency. Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standard circumstances. 

Work Schedule:

This position works Monday through Friday, 8-hour Day Shift with scheduled breaks. This position also requires 24 hour on-call rotation, rotating weekends and overtime as deemed necessary.

The Multi-Craft Mechanic is a person who must be willing to work overtime and an on-call rotation consistent with supporting a 24/7 operation. Candidate must be willing to participate in mill and department safety discussions as well as abiding by all Company procedures, rules, and policies. 

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, potential electrical hazards, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is loud in some areas which require hearing protection.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and arms to handle, feel or reach, climb, balance, stoop, knee, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision, distance, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
