Dunn County is Hiring a Part-Time Cook Near Menomonie, WI

Are you skilled in the kitchen and ready to take on a new challenge? We're looking for a Part-Time Cook to join our team. In this role, you'll be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving regular and special diet foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You'll also assist with cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas and step up to lead dietary functions and staff when the Food Service Director is absent.

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Prepares, cooks, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods, including special diet foods; determines quantity of food required; serves food by portion control honoring dietary orders, likes and dislikes on tray cards.

  • Assembles snack carts for delivery.
  • Assists with cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas and equipment used in the preparation of meals.
  • Assists in providing training to new food service employees.
  • Transfers food items to freezers, coolers, and other areas, as required.
  • Answers telephones, takes and/or relays messages, as required.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) years previous food production experience.
 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Cook position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for Cook to possess.
  • Departmental procedures used in the setup of trays, food portioning, identification of dietary codes.
  • Knowledge of foods permitted and allowed on various special diets.
  • Fundamentals of food production and operations.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and requirements pertaining to food handling, sanitation and food production.
  • Knowledge concerning the operation of food preparation equipment (e.g. mixers, ovens, steamers, slicers, choppers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing components
  • Knowledge of proper food storage and usage procedures.
  • Assisting, cleaning and sanitizing food areas, utensils, pots, pans, dispensers, food equipment, food service areas in accordance with sanitation procedures.
  • Leading, preparing and following menus and recipes in the baking or preparation of food items and meals. Determines proper quantities and makes adjustments in recipes given menu counts.
  • Operating food production equipment.
  • Ordering proper quantities of foods and food supplies in accordance with established menus, census and food service practices.
  • Monitoring food temperatures and procedures in the assembly, serving and or distribution of meals, snacks or other food items.
  • Basic math, reading and writing.
  • Storing of food items and rotating of food items.
  • Implementing and following departmental instructions and routines in the setup of trays, identifying special dietary tray requirements/codes, food portioning and serving routines of the department.
  • Customer relation skills in dealing appropriately with and interacting with residents and staff of the health care center in the exchange of information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships.
  • Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures including those pertaining to confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize job assignments.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
 
MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS 
In order to perform the duties of the Cook position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Cook to possess. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and the general public in written and verbal form. 
  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
 
MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Cook position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Cook to possess.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
 
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS
In order to perform the duties of the Cook position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Cook to possess.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
