Position Summary

Provide financial management activities of the Children’s Clinical Research Unit (CCRU) within the Department of Pediatrics. This includes assisting the CCRU Financial Practice Manager (FPM) with the overall financial oversight of the CCRU and its portfolio.

Responsibilities

x Work with institution, department, division, study teams, and principal investigators on developing budget amendments in accordance with sponsor’s requirements and institutional and departmental policy, procedures and deadlines.

x Negotiate budget amendments and payment terms with sponsors and Clinical Research Organizations (CROs). This includes negotiating out-of-scope payments with sponsors. x Enter all negotiated budgets in Duke’s Sponsor Project System and OnCore. Create Trial Trackers for

those budgets that do not qualify for OnCore.

x Produce monthly financial reports for the CCRU. The reports will be used by the Financial Practice Manager, CCRU leadership, principal investigator, and division leadership to make decisions on the PI’s clinical research portfolio.

x Process complex invoices using templates and processes. Track invoice payments from sponsors in comparison to milestone payments and follow up with sponsors on outstanding payments. x Assist with the collection of payments, including deposit of checks and identification of wire transfers. x Prepare and process journal entries, including CCRU management fees. x Build Clincard budget in Greenphire. Review and approve all Clincard payments in accordance with policy. x Close-out completed studies in a timely manner and in accordance with institution policy. x Perform FAM validation on sampled transactions for payroll, patient care charges, and deposits. x Review patient charges from Maestro report. Resolve any discrepancies.

x Process AP check request transactions for site payments.

x Review and approve Buy@Duke and Concur transactions for clinical research.

x Adhere to sponsor, institution and department policies and procedures, including the development of new CCRU policies and procedures when needed. x Attend RAA Industry Track classes for certification, along with annual continuing education. x Perform other clinical research finance duties as needed.

Skills:

Strong communication, organizational, and financial analytical skills.

Education/Training:

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of three years experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.

Experience

Work requires three years experience in financial management, cost OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.
